[Pedant]

It's the Union flag - only the Union Jack when it is flown from the jack stay (the short flag pole on the bow) on a warship.

[/Pedant]

But yeah, I have it on my car, my bike and my crash helmet. Proud to be British

Don't actually have a Union flag yet - got an England flag. A proper one - red cross on white background, not one of those abominations with 'Engerlund', or even <shudder> a sports company logo plastered across it.

And therein lies the importance of punctuation! You have just said you are too proud to be British. Possibly you meant "me too, proud to be British...."?

I think that the former is becoming the norm though...........

I am proud to be English and love seeing the cross of St George flying proudly...
The Union Jack (pedant or not it's all I'll ever call it) represents Great Britain and I dont class myself as British.
Some forms I fill out ask for nationality and they have tick box choices, always one with British, never one with English. I always tick other and write in "English"...

I wear Union Jack boxer shorts and proudly raise the pole at least once a day to honour it!

Didn't a bloke get fined off the Police for flying the Union Flag?

Some foreign immigrant complained that he was insulted that an Englishman living in England was flying his national flag outside his property. Police went straight round to tell said bloke to take down his flag or be arrested for sighting racial tensions.

Yet said immigrant can fly their flags where ever they like. Don't like that? Your a racist then.

I have an England flag as I'm English, and not a Union Flag.

Sure I will get flamed, but I just cringe now at the sight of the St George cross(firmly associate it with World Cup disappointment) and the Union Jack/Flag (normally found stuck on the back of a Rover 25)

Something went wrong with this country over the last 15/20 years and Britain just isn't Britain anymore.Sticking a union flag on my Japanese sports car won't help my mood

I would have thought, technically, that putting English as your nationality would constitute filling out the form incorrectly, thus invalidating it?

Whatever we want to be, we are British in nationality I would have thought. England, Wales, Scotland are not sovereign states, or republics, so have no standing as nationalities?

You can say you are whatever you want, doesn't make it right though.

For the record, I was born in Wales, but I tell people I'm British. Still get called a sheep ******* though...........

I didn't think one could be fined for flying the union flag as it is not against the law to fly it. I know that you can install a flagpole on your propery to fly the union flag and not break any laws, but flying other flags needs planning permision. A bobby can ask you to take down your Union Flag, but it is not enforcable.

I'm much more of a fan of the Union Flag (I even had a little enamel one on the back of my TVR). The St. George Cross smacks of football louts, IMHO.

I always think a St Georges cross is synonymous with chavs and football hooligans. I feel British and always say it. Just because everyone hates the English, we should keep making a point of reminding them they're stuck with us

St George was actually from Turkey, not English at all.

Actually I think it would be a good idea, why not? this is Brittan isn't it? might help unite the country a bit more too, in Cambridge I see more foreign flags outside peoples houses then the union jack(sorry don't care if the jack part is a navel term I was born and raised with it as the Union Jack )

Why should we let the chavs etc take the Georges cross? getting fed up with people in this country that always go on about the negative things this great nation of ours has done like every other country has never done wrong, we should be bloomin proud to fly the Union'flag' and all the flags of our great nation ....take the **** if you like (I can actually hear the orchestra as I rite lol)

Seriously though I have a lot of foreign friends and they are proud of there flags so why shouldn't wee?

Man I need to stop ranting....got to be my age lol
