£150 ? You don't want a waterproof one then ?
go for a tunnel type if you want easy to put up. Try and find one with a built in bathtub groundsheet...

Thanks for that.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind a waterproof one, really. After all, it is summer...
I've done a Google and found loads for sale with money off, down from £200 ish to around £150 and up. I thought for £200 you'd get a good un, so in the sales...
I'm just not sure which are any good.

After years of proper mountain tents, I realised that it was time for some luxury and bought a Gelert Taal 4. I bought mine from the interweb, but Halfrauds sell them at certain stores.
For £150 you get two sleeping sections and a rigid 4-pole tent you can almost stand in. More importantly it's watertight and can withstand anything upto galeforce winds. You do need to buy a good ground sheet, as the one supplied is rubbish and went straight in the bin.

We've got a Hertford L Outwell tent for sale. Details here: Outwell Hartford L Tent - Yeomans Outdoors
Been used and is in good condition. I can vouch that it can stand heavy rain and strong winds...

I think it's safe to say you should always go for a better one than you think you need. If you think one's going to be OK, discount it and go for the next one in the range. You will always have enough stuff to fill whatever space you have...

Had a three man Blacks tent for years - stood up to monsoon style rain and force 8 winds.
Make sure you "seam seal" the outside sheet (but like Pritstick) and it should be good.
Cost about £150.

Thanks for all the replies, chaps. I now know where to look!
Clarebabes/ Davy.....thanks for the offer, I may just take you up on it but that one looks REALLY big! Is it okay to put up by one person?

OK thanks. It's just that for most of the time I'll be in it by myself but with the occasional trip with the kids (5 and 21months) so they'll be no help whatsoever....

Do not buy a cheap tent it really is not worth it is the weather turns bad unexpectedly!
We were camping in our tent last week and had big storms on Monday Evening/Tuesday. Our tent is an Outwell Indiana 6 Outwell tents and it stood up to the gale force winds, although the canopy came off the front. To be fair they do say remove it for high winds, but the winds were higher than we expected!
However many other people on the site found their tents leaked liked sieves, or the poles snapped under the strain. I saw 5 go straight in the bin!
I would go for the second hand Outwell you are being offered up there ^ all the Outwells stood up well to the storm!

Our tent is great. It is easy to put up - I shall have a go at putting it up this weekend on my own and report back! (I may cheat and ask my 8-year-old to help though )

Clare, is there a chance I could almost stand up in it? I'm 6' 4" ish.
Does the Outwell have sewn in ground sheets 'cos I like the look of the Khyams but the sheet is extra
