i've started using darkside for downloads - 99% are good quality dvd rips, the only downside is it takes a few hours to download them (could be my nthell though?)

I'm downloading '300' at the moment via BitTorrent and It'll cost £2 to watch. The only other time I've paid for a film was 'The Secret' which was available to watch immediately in a streaming format. Is this sort of thing not available for main stream films, then?

In the UK, I doubt it. In the US, it is possible to view movies instantly on your PC (yeah right, that's marketing spiel for you ) using Netflix. I doubt you'll be able to use that service from anywhere but the US though.

The file downloaded, I got my card out and clicked play. "Sorry, this film is only available to residents of the US".

Torrentspy next.

On Torrentspy, search for movies by 'Axxo' as they're always good quality

I agree with the above coment on films released by "aXXo". Any film uploaded by him is of the highest quality. However he only posts his uploads on darksideRG. He has his own section on the site. If you download an aXXo released film from anywhere else you may be unlucky enough to get one of the many fakes going around.
A lot of the fakes are easy to spot though because they are *.rar files. aXXo never uploads films in *.rar.

By clicky, do you mean the quality of the image is okay, but playing them on a DivX DVD player on a TV, they appear to stutter slightly?

If so, there is a simple fix to this.

This seems like good advice. I have a ('nother ) day off tomorrow so will give it a punt.

Wow!

Downloaded '300' in 2 hrs with perfect audio/visual quality and not a penny spent. Possibly the best recommend I've ever had on Snet.

Now downloading 'The Prestige'.

i use convertxtodvd all the time and never had a problem yet. once set up it does the lot including burning and menu titles etc. just make sure you dont run other apps while converting as thats what used to bugger up nero for me, its a big processor power hog.

Apples24, if your sound goes a bit jumpy its because of your audio codec.
Either download a codec pack, or better still download VLC media player.
VLC will play absolutely anything as it gererates its own codecs.
Borders at the top and bottom mean its in widescreen format.
VLC media player

As for burning to DVD, I couldn't be bothered wasting disks, so I did it the easy way. I just plugged the laptop into my DVD recorder and watched it on telly while it was also being recorded.

well im still crap lol,. last night before bed i det the laptop using convertxtodvd so left the laptop on with no other apps running, i even set the write speed to 2x, this morning tried the disc and its even worse than the others ive done ffs, this one has jumpy sound and little jumpy squares on the scrren, i havent a clue what im doing wrong

i was told connecting a laptop or pooter to the tv screen was ****e pic quality???

ive actually got a lead that gos from the s video socket on my laptop and the headphone socket, on the other end is a scart but i tried a couple months ago couldnt get it to work atall.

this vlc is it just another converter software?

so far ive downloaded alcahol 120%
dvd shrink
dvd santa
daemon tools

as you can see ive just trying anything to get a film to work well, maybe connecting laptop to the tv is the best route as long as pics ok, i tried for ages before though couldnt get anything ont he scrren

i remember plugging it all in and presing the av buttons on the tv remote and nothing, i trtied going into the screen properties bit and changine over to number 2 or one or something similar

apples, start at the beginning and check each step.

The film have have downloaded, have you played it on your laptop? Check really carefully if the errors you see are actually present before you have written it to DVD. The conversion process cannot make it better than what you start with.

If it plays fine on the laptop, it may be the make of disc you have. Or the conversion utility. I have personally being using Nero to convert into DVD format.

As an end note Daemon tools comes bundled with ad-ware these days, so I switched to MagicISO.

apples i use a program called divxtodvd takes about an hour to convert, you then burn it to disc using nero burning rom, just transfer the "video ts" files onto the burn side on nero.
or the other and simpler way is buy divx dvd player, they only cost about £30 or less and play them as avi files, it saves on discs as you can get about 6+ fims on one 4gig disc

when i tried nero i would say click to add the film it would be the wrong format? so instead of dvd i tried clicking burn vcd as the file sizes were 700mb but when i added them they were 800 odd?

they werent in a rar or any other format, also wasnt a .bin ore cue file, it played fine on media player etc but wouldnt add to nero strange

re the crap quality films im burning could i have a prob with my dvd drive on laptop??

also just tried the lead again and i tried pressing ctrl and f7 nothing happened tried all the av channels on the tv
