Basically, I've been in the pensions industry for the last 15 yrs or so and I am currently an Assistant Pensions Manager with a large private sector company. Along with so many other private companies, my company has just announced that it is closing down it's final salary occupational arrangement (which I run and I personally specialise in final salary) and redundancy could be on the cards in the next 2-3 years. I have 10 years service.
I haven't actively been looking for another role but I have been approached by one of our HR Directors to offer me the opportunity to move into his department in the role of the car fleet manager, with some HR/Pay & Benefits thrown in from next April if I want it (still need to go through the internal vacancy advertising etc). This may suggest that he know what's planned for my department next year?
Anyway, it's a major decision for me as not only will I effectively be walking away from 15 years pension experience, I have a young family to consider so need a degree of security. Whilst the job market for final salary experts may be bleak in the medium to long term, I'm not 100% sure that car fleets won't go down the same route in years to come as tax liability and the onus on employers increases.
I'm not so much looking for advice on what the pensions industry will do as I know that myself, but what's people's thoughts on what the fleet management industry will do in years to come?
Thanks.

Can't answer your question I'm afraid but...
On the plus side as Fleet Manager, depending on size of your company, the local dealers will be throwing all sorts of nice motors at you to try out!
I work at a huge company. I know the Fleet Manager well and often pass her parking space. She's had a Boxster, New RS4, M3, X5, 335 Coupe....
Dream job for me!
