Default Word of mouth is always best

buying a house, need a survey done,before i yellow page the companies,thought id ask if anyone has had a good service/not extortionate prices etc from any companies that survey the gloucester area.

Doesnt the mortgage company usually sort out the surveyor? Or are you a cash buyer? (not that Im being nosey, just Ive never had to arrange my own surveyor)

they can do yes, they call it a mortgage valuation.

basic is £355,this tells you the house is there and standing, pointless really, £550 gets u a moderate survey,if it has damp then about £750-£800 gets u a full survey.

if you cut out the middle man (mortgage supplier) u can get it(should) for half these prices.

should be the operative word !!!

Thank **** I dont live down south, never paid more than £120 for a survey that was organised by the mortgage company.

wll yes, you are lucky.

got quoted £800 to do a full strutual survey along with all the rest of the checks, about a 30 page report.

think i`ll go for the £550 one as this is a detailed report, home buyers guide,still lists the problems of structual damagge but will only say,front wall collapsing etc,no actual full detail,which is cool, as the full £800 one will give full details,but a structual engineer will be needed to give a 100% diagnosis anyway for more ££££

so the £550 one it is !

bloody surveyors,worse than plumbers with an hourly rate of £500 !!!

Got one for £400 to tell me if its alright to knock down a interior wall as im planning a open room kitchen

just had a call back from MPower in glos, £640 incl VAT for the all singing all dancin 30 page one, strutctual/damp check etc etc

tempting now..........

I am about to pay for the full survey I had done on the house I am buying up north and it was 485 plus VAT which is standard up here and hasnt changed much in 5 years...

From tredworth to abbeydale,from a mid terrace 1890`s place to a detached 1970`s place,bt of a jump but put up with alot in tredworth to earn equity to get a (hopefully) better gaff !!

Daft question, but is your mortgage company okay though with you getting an independant surveyor?

fair play, were looking at moving sometime soonish, currently 2bed terrace in hardwicke but unsure where to go.
