Doesnt the mortgage company usually sort out the surveyor? Or are you a cash buyer? (not that Im being nosey, just Ive never had to arrange my own surveyor)

they can do yes, they call it a mortgage valuation.
basic is £355,this tells you the house is there and standing, pointless really, £550 gets u a moderate survey,if it has damp then about £750-£800 gets u a full survey.
if you cut out the middle man (mortgage supplier) u can get it(should) for half these prices.
should be the operative word !!!
cheers

wll yes, you are lucky.
got quoted £800 to do a full strutual survey along with all the rest of the checks, about a 30 page report.
think i`ll go for the £550 one as this is a detailed report, home buyers guide, still lists the problems of structual damagge but will only say, front wall collapsing etc,no actual full detail, which is cool, as the full £800 one will give full details, but a structual engineer will be needed to give a 100% diagnosis anyway for more ££££
so the £550 one it is !
bloody surveyors, worse than plumbers with an hourly rate of £500 !!!
