Vented: depends on how hard your walls are: newish house (last 20-30 years - no probs - older houses with hard clay-bircks will be a bit more of an issue) Anyway: just hire a 6" core drill and a sds drill to bore the hole....£20-£30.

Condensed: need a drain, or you have to keep emptying the tank. Pain in the ****.

Vented works best, plus there is less to go wrong, and they are cheaper to buy.

Think mine was 5", but I used a 150mm (6") core drill. Suppose you need to check the vent diameter when you get the dryer.

My house bricks are hard-clay (melts non-SDS drill bits). Took about 20mins to bore the hole, mind I suspect the hired core drill was a bit on the blunt side.

I swear by vented having used both.

Current house is newish but the bottom courses are engineering bricks. Was a bit entertaining getting the 4" hole through them, but I managed it in about half an hour with a bit of effort, a standard black and decker drill and a long 7mm masonry bit (The plasterboard, breeze blocks etc I did from inside using a standard 4" hole cutter). My drill, despite emitting a fair bit of smoke in the process, has recovered fine.

Nah. Unvented is crap. Vented works. Buy a hammer, take the day off & go green!

These are handy - no tray to empty and not too much effort to install

We've had 2 combined washer dryers, both of which were condensing variety, but as they were also washing machines they self emtied. The old un-eco friendly one worked very well, the new energy efficient one is crap, couple of towels can take 3 hours or more to dry. Mum has a vented one and it out performs ours hands down.

The washer-dryers usually use mains water to condense; Condensing dryers use air within the room to condense, so they can't really be compared, as they use different methods of drying. But both are slower to dry than a vented.

Inccidentally my old (inherited )NEFF washer dryer nearly caught fire last Sunday I don't usually use the dryer part as it takes ages and I have a vented dryer that dries much faster. But if I'm busy I use it so it drys striaght after a wash whilst I'm messing about doing something else.....Only for the drum motor/controller to pack in whilst drying, leaving cotton bedsheets sat right above a red hot 2kw element with no air circulation.....BBQ'd bedsheets anyone?

Glad that our house-rule is to always make sure someone is in the house whilst the dryer is on...for that very reason.
