Default Anyone know anything about how BT systems are updated?

Story, new house, brand new exchange, just been fitted new line after 3 month wait while the exchange was finished. Now trying to order broadband but getting stories that system takes 24, 42, 48 ours to update.

Eventually got put through to the exchange manager and explained to him that we wanted broadband, actually mentioned using a different provider, he explained the systems are complicated and he will look into it.

This morning had a text to say broadband would be live on sept 3rd, when i check BT's track your order, sure enough a BT Total Broadband order. I've spoken to my chosen provider and they still can't see my line on the wholesale database.

So it seems BT have bypassed their database and created an order for me (gawd knows what option i have). Naturally I'm reluctant to cancel in case I will have to wait seveal weeks/months for their systems to update. The local area lines are being migrated through September so feasibly it could be end of September.

Anyone know how the wholesale system works for ADSL, and as a side note if I have to stay with BT, anyone with them. I've seen some horror stories but that's usually the case with a large coy.

BT wholesale are usually pretty good (is than an oxymoron)

if they have your order, they can advise immaterially of whats happening..

unlike ISP's who are near on useless....the upgrades at exchanges take on average 48 hours, with a 2 week lead time

although if your AOL, then they cant even achieve a 3 month date

Mart, are you suggesting BT are a good ISP. I had chosen falconnet as it was a small provider using the enta infrastructure, and customer service is good.

BT Wholesale isn't an ISP, it's the infrastructure and provisioning arm of the BT Group that provides lines to other "providers" in the UK that aren't local loop unbundled ones.

As for BT Broadband, can't say I've ever had a problem with them.

I'm wondering whether Retail have bypassed the database to raise the order, and the wholesale databases are not showing my line.

I've checked the "What speed can you get?" link and it tells me I can't have broadband so something is not updated.

Any more BT broadband users?

Been with BT since broadband came onto the open market. Never a problem with them, apart from sending my order with equipment missing, but as an ISP... faultless.

It seems they have raised a manual request for broadband, next door are using Zen and it seems they must have done the same thing. My small provider wasn't aware of this process so he is just looking at the online systems....hmmm

Might well just stick with BT, at least i won't have to wait too long.
