Default speed camera or anpr?

travelling down m32 toward bristol at 4.45 this afternoon there was 2 cameras set up on a bridge between filton and fishponds, they looked like cctv type cameras with a square box thing attached to the side of them and were standing on tripods.
there were no camera signs anywhere,no visible speed camera van displaying its yellow/orange chevrons,as i passed under the bridge i did notice a van to the left behind some trees but there did not appear to be any markings on it.

would this have been speed camera's and if so can they do you for speeding even if there were no signs around?
or could it of been anpr camera's checking number plates on cars entering bristol?

cheers

The country is snided with semi-covert ANPR cameras nowadays. You have nothing to fear if you havent done anything worng, apparently.

ANPR only reads your number plate and checks against various databases.

Much more likely to be speed cameras - ANPR always has police pursuit vehicles further up the road. More than one may mean training.

You only need to worry when they arrive at 0230 am to take you in!

Yep - van, 2 jam butties and a black Evo. Sounds like a computer game! Good positive use of technology.

Slightly misleading. If it was a mobile ANPR device then thatd be the case but there is also a fixed ANPR system that isnt commonly publicised. This appears to be little more than a number of fixed discrete cameras mounted in strategic locations.
