Not surprising savings are up - looks like cash is king at the moment, and banks are offering some very tempting rates to get savers in.
Anglo Irish bank offering 1 year fixed rate bonds of 6.9% AER!!
Fixed Rate Bond, Savings Account, Investments, Corporate Banking- Anglo Irish Bank UK

I feel happier saving quite a bit more than that - but that is just my personal choice.

LOL, I work in a IFA practice and I've got bugger all I'll admit. What I do have I want to spend on cars so indeed I am the fool.
My 6 year old daughter has more savings now than I ever had. Hopefully she'll use it for university and not bumming around tailand

I was taking the wee wee.
But this line is not what I'd call "impartial"

The point that's being missed is this is the "average", the very high earners saving £1000's a month will be heavily skewing these figures. I suspect your average joe is saving considerably less than that.

Pete - what are you saving for - If I was your age I would be living ever day like it was my last.
Anyway - 'Average' savings doesn't actually mean anything. Of my last 5 clients, one has savings of 100k and the other 4 have no savings. That means they have average savings of 20k.

Sat at home watching daytime TV then lewis??
I used to save a 2 grand a month before I took my 'sabaticle'. I can happily live on the interest payments my savings provide.

Currently i am the chap who cleans the dog muck off of the trolley wheels and straightens the bent bars. It will be a long time (and tons of dog poo scraping) before i graduate to assistant collector of trolleys and get my hands on the real thing!

A group of FA's and IFA's sat outside the pub once talking about the money they used to make when they worked together selling endowments and the like for a company that got sued and went bankrupt. One says if I ever earn over 10k per month again I am going to save some.
