I read his book on holiday, i think everyone who is of the opinion that the police do nothing should watch this and see why this happens, the real villians are the government in power denying you the taxpayer proper policing.

Pity we can't have some Harry Calahan (aka Dirty Harry) guest appearances.
Less paperwork - more action.
"Go on, make my evening........"

It just seems crazy that in the days of videos cameras, voice recorders etc everything still needs to be written down. And I bet 99.5% of it just ends up in a filing system somewhere. dl

In this case you enter a request for 'forms 12, 45 and 67 say. You get requested for all the common info then they are printed off. The actual statement is handwritten maybe.
This is just an improvement on the existing syste with it's myriad of forms to protect vistims rights. What should happen is that most of this crud is done away with....
I'll watch the prog. with interest!

I work with 5 people who are all leaving to go abroad. 3 to Oz, the other 2 to Canada.
2 other people I joined with are now a year into their new posts in Melbourne.
I only caught the last 5 mins of the programme

But the main thing that struck me (after the apathy!) was that most of these forms needed the same info - which was transcribed by hand each time ... Strange, but after working in IT for many yeasr I thought that was one of the benefits - enter once and then all the info is there.
Then they went to Canada and watched as two drunks were arrested for a) drinking in the treet and b) trespassing - the it was found that they had a history of unpaid fines. So it was back to the station, processsed and they were out on bail. About 15 mins and 1 form. The Brit policeman there said they would have been there for another 2 hours at least. It's a joke.

i was lucky enough to get an advance copy of stuart's book (friend of a friend). every sitting MP, every civil servant in the home office, every judge and every paper-pushing ACPO social engineer should be forced to read it at truncheon point.
tony mcnulty at the home office and and ian blair at the met? they should have it stuffed up their jackseys without lube.
go on, fella!

I saw three real coppers this am in my local town this morning which is the most I have seen for many weeks, including the CSO we have got who just rides his bike about the place doing nothing-sometimes!
Do you think that Panorama has actually had an effect?

It would appear that its business as usual
The Sun Online - News: Boys nicked for apple 'damage'
another "detectable" offence (sheesh)
what gets me is if you say you want no further action taken, they do it anyway. And they wonder why people don't have much support for them.
I got into trouble as an 10 year old (smashing bottles in the local park)
the local bobby booked me and said he would be round to see my parents..
"i was bricking it, (i wasn't allowed to go to the park
My school was informed (don't know why?) but for years my mum never found out
The copper did come to my house a year or two later for another non related reason, i was having kittens in case he mentioned it to her..
No Arrests, no DNA, no "detectable crime"
But good old sensible policing, shame they don't seem to do that nowadays

Same here - good old on demand actually worked.
As someone that does the job featured a lot of what was shown was 'journalistic selection'. Not all of what was shown was strictly true. They chose the worst of every possible situation to show.
There is loads of paperwork, but a lot of it is handed over for others to do. That's the case where I work, anyway.
It's rare to spend any more than 25% if the shift off the streets.
