I'm sure you will all remember these things things from the late eightys, ninetys. they were crap due to the constant grainy image from the rubbish arial they used to have!!..
just a quick queston really, We are having a discussion at work about how the TV license worked for them?? we finally came to the conclusion that it was maybe the household of the owner?
anyone shed some light?

You've probably arrived at the right answer - although as you suggest in your post I suspect they would struggle to prove you were infact receiving a TV signal on the bladdy things - they were hopeless.

You can use one "wherever you like" (in the UK, from a licensing perspective) so long as you already hold a TV licence (e.g. for home) and the handheld is powered by it's own internal batteries!

I bought one as a present for my Father last year and got hounded by the TV licence people to show proof of that I had a valid TV licence for my home (as I foolishly gave me name and address to Argos without thinking about it when I made the purchase).
The reception isn't that bad -- certainly much better than the one that I had ... eek ... 20 years ago.

Maybe I should point out that if you use your mobile phone to pick up streaming broadcasts or use a PC to download broadcasted programs you will also need a license (so they say
).
You should read the BS in the red letters I get off the licensing lot.
