1000 posts
5000 posts?
10000 posts?
20000+ posts?

Its only a fiver to become a member and Ive seen a few people with over 20,000 posts not coughing up a penny!

Answer - When they feel they want to, not at some arbitary level, and not because a full member thinks they should .
Course the webby could always make it a subscription forum - that would sort the men from the boys

I would personally say when you feel a part of something and want to give something back
But its a personal choice, which is why I guess its optional
In the same token, a lot of the people who are not paid members have a wealth of knowledge. Without which SN would be less of a resource. So for some, maybe thats their contribution.

thats a good point you rasied. Personally i joined up on day one before a single post, the information i gleened from fellow members, suporters or not was worth every penny.
I dont think you can enforce who joins/pays/supports etc, however i know from experience running a site like this takes dedicated time and money, server costs, maintainance, etc.
They way i see it is that nothing is normally for free, the fact that SN can be free is great for people who genuinely cant afford, although owning and running a Scoob is not cheap anyways, i would assume most should be able to make a donation however small.
Nothing against members who have not paid, their information is as valuable as paid members, i think its a personal view as to what you should do, i made my point!

Maybe SN wouldn't be around to charge money for membership and earn money from advertising if some of us hadn't been here for many years posting threads, answering questions and recommending the site to many, many, many others.......
I think once you've been around and contributing for 5 years or more membership should be free.

Actually Brendan, you might want to consider giving your dealer a bonus! SN won't give you rat poison in lieu of a thread if you p*ss the webby off!

For us old hands (I have been on here since 2001) - we have seen membership-advertisments-incentives-redsigns etc etc on scoobynet come and go and people that feature heavily and then drift away. I think some of us long timers are a bit immune to the latest banner saying win this join this. Plus between us we have contributed alot of info over the years.

I've been posting on scoobynet since september 2001 (under various usernames)
Its not the same anymore, too many keyboard warriors thinking that, 'cos they have paid a few quid, they can get people banned who don't agree with there views. To$$ers!
And the more commercial the sites got with advertising and gimmics the slower its got - I keep on getter a faster broadband connection but the pages sometimes take forever to load. Was quicker on dial up "back in the day"
I'll be banned before 9:30 no doubt for this post
