Default neighbours trees

We're getting a bit peeved with the neighbour opposite as he gets tree surgeons in to chop his tree branches on his side of the fence so he doesn't get as many leaves falling into his garden.
During summer/ spring when all the leaves are on the branches we get most of the light blocked so end up having to have the lights on mid- late afternoon
Now this pratt couldn't care less and because it's a private house i guess we can't complain to the council?

this morning i heard 2 loud crack and when i looked out this is what i saw -

yep 1 of the lower branches had snapped and blocked the lane (5 hours) and landed in a neighbours garden
The pratt opposite called some1 out just to remove the fallen branch but wont trim the others (which are twice as high as our house) - who can we complain to as they're a danger?

Ring the local council tree officer and explain the predicament. In extreme circumstances they can force the owner to sort the trees but more than likely they will just send a nice letter

Cheers Kev - tried looking on the Kirklees website but for trees it refers to trees on council land and not private?

If everything gets desperate a cordless drill and a bit of creosote will bring it all to a swift conclusion.....

yeah but as he's trimmed the branches on his side all the weight is on the lane side so if/ when they fall it'll be our way.........

This may sound obvious, but have you tried asking him to sort it out or have you just assumed he won't? If you did ask, what were his reasons for not doing it?

If it overhangs somebody else's garden then they can get it cout back to where it overhangs as long as they return the branches.

Creosote will kill it, then he will have to have it felled...

For Kirklees read inept and useless. I would take legal advice as I am sure there must be a law which will compel this bloke to trim the trees.

Contact the local Highway Authority. The picture you have is an excellent piece of evidence that the tree can be a danger to road users. They will tell the owner to sort it or else. Is it a Horse Chesnut? Not a "proper" tree according to my tree surgeon source! He likes real trees like Oak and Ash, not Spanish imports - racist

well the tree next to it is a conker tree - not sure what the other are

there are maybe 4 or 5 trees which align his boudry but he only get them trimmed at his side so he doesn't have as many leaves to clear.
I would have thought the tree surgeons would tell him how unsafe it is as the trees are now biased with all the weight away from his property towards the other houses and lane?
