Don't be fooled by the promotional videos going around, these are NOT for the beginner. They are very difficult to control. They are extremely unstable and rely solely on power to fly, not aerodynamics.
There are loads of different manufacturers, each claiming to be the best or the original. Also most of them will have a video on their website which claims to be their own model in action when it is usually a Michael Connally video. Most of the variants on Ebay are cheap 'n nasty underpowered and overweight Chinese copies.
If you really must buy one, then consider whether you want extruded/expanded polystyrene (XEPS), or expanded polypropylene (EPP).
They both have their good/bad points. XEPS (Depron) is best for an experienced flyer as it is much lighter and therefore has a better power/weight ratio. The downside is, it is easily damaged WHEN (not if) you crash. Polypropylene (EPP) is much stronger and bends rather than breaks when you crash it. The downside is weight. As I mentioned earlier, it relies on power to fly so the cheap Ebay ones (usually EPP) are a bit heavy and underpowered but probably better suited to a beginner.

Thanks for the replies, looks like there is mixed feedback reading the following:
Toys "R" Us - Air Hogs R/C Storm Launcher - Yellow
Not sure now whether to invest in one or not
