Default new car tax prices

Is there an easy way of working out how much car tax will cost for a given car?

I heard the other day that someone now has to pay a lot more for their scoob

And when is this 400 quid a year lark going to start, and what is the criteria for it?

Any exemption rules etc?

There was an article in The Times about this last weekend with a table of what Alistair Darling wanted the tax to be...it was a pretty scary reading!

A 4.4l Range Rover was £2k per annum

A normal 1.6 Saloon went from £200 to £600......

A STi isn't far behind that Rangey...........

Oh dear

Ah well in 2040 all petrol cars will be banned anyway if the governments get their way

I think its about time they added the car tax to the price of petrol, and did away with the license thing, at least that way everyone has to pay tax, and can no longer be dodged

He He, anyone up for a petrol run to France then. Boot sized fuel tanks will become a common mod

Well it's started with the road tax: Last year this lark started; in 23/03/06 when band "G" came out....that's the £300 tax band for cars giving out over 225g/km

Car's such as the MY06 or earlier Impreza Turbo (and Monaro ) registered before that date are Band F and will remain so ( £205.00 a year). The cars can be identical in spec in terms of pollution etc..same pollution etc...just older and thus stay in cheaper Band F

So it's only cars giving out more than 225g/km registered after 23/03/06 that are stung with the higher road tax charge. Impreza Turbos registered after 23/03/06 will be band G and thus £300...owch

....The joys of owning a Classic Impreza...£180.00 road tax
