Default Being a Community Support Officer in the UK (3)

Boy's drowning prompts call to scrap PCSOs - Telegraph

... means you stand around and watch a boy drown because "you haven't been trained to deal with major incidents".

meanwhile, two OAPs dive in and save his stepsister, then a PC arrives, dives straight in and recovers the now dead boy.

the mind simply boggles.

These 'plastic coppers' are a waste of time - get rid of them, I'm sure you will all agree with me too that all they do is hand out tickets and pretend they are the law.

Different forces allow different PCSO's to hand out a range of FPN's
Its on a website somewhere.
But you have traffic, community, security and some forces have transport PCSO's

All receiving different levels of training on their particular area.

Based on the training and roles, the forces allow them to hand out FPN's for basic offences, motoring, public order etc.

But its important to realise PCSO's from different forces have different roles and responsibilities, as well as powers.

Thanks for all that Snazy, never knew about it-I though all they could do was to report an incident when it occurred.

Its a messed up role, mainly due to the way it was introduced and thought out, not because of the people doing the job.
A very complex and conflicting role, and in some areas, there is bad chemistry between the PC's and PCSO's, which is sad really.

But the issue of FPN's is an important part on some parts of the role, and to ensure the public understand they DO have some powers, and cant just be laughed off.

Training however is poor, and selection quite worrying in some cases, all in the name in upping the numbers quickly.

I flew through selection and all the testing, and ended up being rejected for a minor offence when I was 16 Proper gutted, but seem to see enough action without a uniform anyway lol
