Default Ideas for weekend breaks needed?

We are thinking of going away for a few days in November, and are unsure where to go. We need places to go that are non weather dependant. We had thought of York anyone know anything about York or have you got any other ideas. We are in the Midlands and we are willing to travel a couple of hours. We need places to visit during the day and that has got quite a good night life. Please help

York is a great place to visit - get yerself to Bettys and you won't regret it.

York museum is huge and takes a couple of hours to get around (if you spend time LOOKING at things). You don't need to walk far to get anywhere in the city either

Lots to see and do - I don't know about the evening, but you could always do a Ghost Walk (if you're a Most Haunted type )

I've never had a bad day in York and I've been plenty of times, so for a first idea IMHO it's a good one.

Yeah York works. You can use it as a base to visit the cool places in N.yorks (Whitby etc)

The National Railway Museum at York is excellent too plus there's the Yorkshire Wheel which is stood in the grounds: The Yorkshire Wheel and National Railway Museum

In fact if you time it right there's a few of us from on here who are planning to have a bit of meet up in York in the not too distant future

Spent a few days in and around York a couple of weeks ago. Really good and we both enjoyed ourselves.

Out of all the attractions we visited I really think one of the best and most interesting for me was the National Coal mining musuem Yes, yes I know, I also thought it might be boring but I found it really interesting and you get to go underground (350ft) and walk around a real coal mine. .....and it's totally free to get in and go underground

Get yourself to East Midlands airport and go somewhere abroad.

First try brought up Prague for £45 return.

easyJet.com – book cheap flights, hotels, car hire for low cost travel

Another vote for York here, had a nice weekend there, there's also some nice Abbeys nearby if you like that kind of thing, Fountains Abbey was one of them.

Bath is also nice for a weekend, but more to do in York I'd say!

Not really, surely you can get a passport in 6/7 weeks?

I would deffo take a w/end break in europe, will probably cost less and a good chance of better weather.
