Default WHSmith Idiots

Went into WHSmith today to see if they had something in stock and would they match their website price! I was told that they could not do this as their shop wasn't associated with the website and weren't even the same company.

Well if they arent the same company why does WHSmith.co.uk have the Belfast branch listed?

I really hate being told turd!

Quite often the internet side is a completely seperate business unit that does not have very much to do with the retail stores.

The more intelligent ones (PC World is actually a good example) have started to join the two so you got the convenience of searching on a site, checking stock levels and then picking up in store.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen the words "PC World" and "good example" in the same sentence...

Perfectly normal and acceptable really.

Take for example Comet, the cost of stocking a TV, having it on display in a large retail store on premium land, having trained staff to sell to and advise customers costs a lot more that a mail order operation located on cheap land with an internet shop front.

The web store is merely passing on the savings they make by that method of sale.

its not about them matching the website priced, the staff member told me they were not the same company, which they clearly are!

I recently bought a digital camera from Comet. They did a web-order price that was five quid less than the shop-price, but the store local to me didn't appear on the list.

I popped into the store, asked if they had the camera (which they did) and then asked if they would match their own web-price.

Sure can - was the reply, and as it was a "price match" they knocked another 10% off the difference - thus saving another 50p!!

A smart company would rather make slightly less profit, but still get a sale. I guess that "smiths" aren't very smart
