I've had a whizz with my mates Sony Handycam (uses HD tapes) last week, seems nice from a using point of view. Most functions seem logical enough for me to use it without the instructions. ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
To give an idea how good the picture is: Maybe I should point out that a standard digital camcorder set on high-res (low comprression ) mode can give better quality pictures than a DVD film (although a one hour movie will fill up an entire 4.7gig disc
). The HD camcorder is better still!
Your PC is capeable of displaying HD resolution. Unless its from the stone age, it should be at least: If the monitor displays above 720 lines then you will see HD (which nearly all do...most 17"/19" LCDs are 1280x1024, which is just a tad under the 1080p - but not enough to see a difference).![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
If its an old system, it may struggle with the frame rate with 1080p (or if its running Vista, which seems to have crap support from nVidia and dodgy codecs
). Nothing a half decent gfx card wouldn't address on a decent spec 3yr old system.

The best quality ones are still tape based. DVD and HDD ones use compression algorithms to store is a some sort of MPEG.
Canon HV20 is probably still the best consumer one around.
