Have found some good flights available to Toronto YHM in October.
Apart from going to Niagara Falls and hiring anything with a V8
to do a road tour, I'm short on ideas.
Any suggestions on what areas to stay in and for how long to split up a week in Ontario?

Markus still lives there, so will be able to give a more detailed run down than me.
As Richard said, deffo worth doing the CN Tower and the glass floor. The staff there will tell you, before you buy your tickets, what the visibility is and therefore how far you can see from the top.
You've mentioned Niagara Falls. Worth going behind the falls and doing the Maid of the Mist boat trip to the base of the falls as well. Don't bother crossing over to the US - the view from there is nowhere near as good. Niagara itself is a very tacky town, so don't bother going into the town itself. Instead, head over to Niagara on the Lake, a nice picturesque little town. The Niagara region has lots of vineyards and is quite a pleasant place to just drive around.
If you are into ice hockey there is the Hockey Hall of Fame in downtown TO.
Even though it will be out of season, it's worth going over to the Islands. You get a good view of the TO skyline from there and i think the Islands are nicer when there are no tourists anyway. I think Markus still moors his boat over there so you might be able to blag a trip on that.![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I'm not sure where is a good place to stay because I lived there, but I've had rellies stay in a chain hotel downtown and it was perfectly nice. Stay in a hotel close to Yonge street because it will be close to the Subway (Tube) which runs underneath Yonge St. This line has a good service right downtown.
I would also recommend the Hooters restaurant downtown as well. The wings are fantastic.

I'd recommend the Delta Chelsea hotel
Toronto is a great city. I've been twice now and will be going again next year possibly.
I did the Rogers Stadium (Skydome) tour and the Air Canada Centre tour, aswell as the CN Tower etc. If you're going with female they'll enjoy the shopping.
If you are going to Niagra for a day trip the Greyhound is pretty cheap, although there are lots of companies who organise tours up there, and a few stop at the local vineyards on the way back, and you can taste/buy local wine. Which is nice.

Niagara falls is only 45 minutes away from TO, so easily just a day out.
There are some national parks north of TO (Algonquin for example), but I think they may be closed out of season and so it may be difficult to find somewhere to stay near them. More info here on parks.
I can't think of anything else worth seeing that is far enough away that would require an overnight stay (unless you drive for 7 hours to Ottawa etc).

Afternoon all, someone mention my name? ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Jerome has covered pretty much of what I would have said. Niagara is well worth a visit, you *will* get wet on the maid of the mist. There are a couple of Casino's down that way too, might be worth having a look around if it's of interest. Niagara on the Lake is very nice as well, some quaint shops and things there (nice sailing club too, but I digress
).
Toronto, well, CN Tower, Hockey is off-season so no blood on the ice action
Baseball is still on though, and there may be a Blue Jays home game. Ticket prices are pretty reasonable, way more so than hockey where it's a reall pish take. There is also the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum). Have a look here for more things to do and places to go. There are plenty of bars, clubs and restuarants in downtown TO.
Toronto Islands are rather nice. Alas I don't have the boat moored up over there, but we do sail frequently over to the island (had a club race over there at the weekend, was "interesting" given the winds were 40 knots and we're in a little 24ft boat!). I would offer you a sail but the boats going to be hauled out for the winter pretty soon, sorry.
You must ride the Red Rocket (streetcar) for that authentic TO experience. Have to admit I've still not used the street car or the subway since I got here, guess I'm too lazy![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As for where to stay, hmm, as with Jerome, I live here so can't offer too much advice, but agree that somewhere near Younge would be good, as the main things appear to be around there.
Hooters, pmsl, I seem to recall that as the night wore on the serving wenches appeared to get younger
Reminds me, if you like curry there are a couple of good places downtown, Dhabba and Kama.

One other bit of advice, you could always post on here and ask the local Subaru gang what they recommend. Might even have a few good ideas when it comes to nice roads to use the big ol V8 on

Book a meal in the CN tower, and book it and hour before dusk ,so you can see the view in the daylight and night time,it's free to go up when having a meal ,so it's like knocking the entrance price off the meal, you can book on the internet and there is also an online menu. Also go the steam whistle brewery right by the CN tower cheap entrance £4,free beers, free tour ,free glass and or bottle opener.
