Default night out in glasgow.

hi

I have been invited to goto a stag do in glasgow week after next, sounds like a laugh but I will be the only none scottish person there, the one and only other time I have ever been I got quite a bit of greaf for being none scottish. that was a few years ago, however I am still apprehensive about going.

is this still a problem or has it now changed.

cheers in advance.

The fact that you'll be with a load of Scots Id imagine you'd be ok. When I went to Glasgow last with a work collegue (both being English) we met randomly a group of students in a bar who were all Scottish but invited us along for the evening, ended up clubbing with them all etc. Nice bunch IMO tbh, suppose it depends how much of a nice person you are yourself

you'll get a bit of stick from your mates no doubt. i do from my scots mates but i give it back as you do with mates.

you'll get idiots everywhere you go, if it had been london you'd be at risk of being the Northern monkey! Just walk away from any idiots and go to decent bars.

5t.

I wouldn't worry about it, ok their are some that take exception to English people but thats a minority and they aint worth bothering about. Generally when the footy is on its worse. Come up and just enjoy the stag night.

Same as anywhere as long as you don't go to a dodgy place you'll be fine.. generally most of places around the "merchant city" area are decent although sometimes a little poser-ish.

Sure you'll be fine! Most of us aren't so narrow minded to think all English people are idiots. we know there is 1 or 2 that aren't!

Hi James,

I split my time between Glasgow and the Cairngorms.

The airport is only 15 minutes from the city centre, so staying at the Airport is less of an issue than some cities.

How much do you want to spend?

You'll be fine Shaggy.

Weegies hate Edinburgh folk far more than Sassenachs anyway !

I have English pals staying here, and, assuning you can put up with the footie banter (think Everton/Liverpool !), you'll be just fine.

Seriously, Glaswegans are generally thought of as being a pretty warm friendly bunch. No more nuts per capita than any northen English town.

never been to Glasgow but have been to Edingburgh a few times as well as places around the Highlands and Skye

Always been welcomed by the locals, and as long as your not a p***k and are prepared to have the p1ss taken out of you then you'll be fine.

I'm more likely to have my head kicked in, in Oldham town centre than Edingburgh.

Good people the Scots who like to have a bloody good time

Just dont go here - you might bump into this idiot.....

You're asking an Englishman to travel outwith his borders and not wear an England shirt. That surely goes against the first rule in "The Englishman's guide to foreign travel."
It's their national dress!

Not so fast sti-04!!

Copy and paste below taken from

Scotland the Movie Location Guide - Trainspotting, Glasgow

Trainspotting, although set in Edinburgh, was mainly filmed in Glasgow. Most of the interior scenes were filmed in the disused WD & HO Wills Tobacco factory at Alexandra Parade in the East End. This is now the City Park office complex after a £20 million conversion.

Renton and Sickboy debate Sean Connery movies and Renton shoots the dog with an air rifle at Rouken Glen Park.

The Cafe where Renton and Spud meet before Spud's interview was Cafe d' Jaconelli at 570 Maryhill Road.

The pub where Begbie throws the glass over the balcony and then has a fight was the Crosslands at 182 Queen Margaret Drive.

The nightclub where Renton meets Diane was the now closed Volcano in Partick.

The hotel room interior of the London hotel near the end of the movie was at the George Hotel on Buchanan Street in the city centre.
