One for the tattoo'ed amongst us...
... I am already inked and looking at another piece soon.
I have contacted Louis Molloy about doing the piece for me.
As in David Beckhams back piece and featured on London Ink.
So, how much do you reckon his hourly charge is...?
Im guessing somewhere between £250-400 an hour. Scary I know, but status and reputation and all that.
What do you reckon, and more to the point, anyone out there been inked by Loius already ?

Hi mate.
May well be that kind of level for fees. But, as you say, he seems to know his stuff
As for London Ink - Loius does come across as an arrogant **** from time to time, but then Danny probably brings out the worst in him.
5 odd hours to do a small mid calf tattoo - WTF ???
I'm in the same boat - time for more work I think

Na willing to join the list though. At the mo he is up to about June next year lol
Yeah the time is long, but the detail is almost second to none. Will be done in a few sessions anyway as its gonna be quite a few hours I think lol.
Yeah he is a bit arrogant but most definatly has the right to be, especially about tattooing. As for Dan, wtf! If he was ya mate, you could put up with it. Me personally.. When getting inked, get started, zone out and wait for the tap on the shoulder to say "done"

Phil's hourly rate seems to be a very fluid thing but it seems to average out around £60. The funny thing is that he works really fast so my full sleeve has taken 4 hours so far with about 2 to go - works out as quite good value!!

i would rather be tattooed by Ami James of Miami Ink
i'll be getting my next piece done when i can find a tattoist who can come up with a decent design on the theme "flowers on the razor wire"
tried a couple in Camden the other day who didn't even know what razor wire was

Kat's work is fantastic though.

£60ph for someone highly rated is good!
Can only hope Louis is as reasonable lol

oh, and if your considering going to a £300+p.h. tatooist, my erm prices have just trebled

I have been surfing the net getting muscle diagrams of the quads to see where it would relate to on the chosen position on the leg.
I like bio, but am less likely to want anything bio-mech But the idea of the torn skin and the muscle beneath is very appealing.
lol @ pricing, you still not told me one. Still got to get Louis to put his twist on it, to make it a tattoo and not just a picture, albeit a COB picture
Its cool not need for insults at this point lol.
Im looking forward to seeing your interpretation of my idea

Bloody hell - I've got a few tattoos - but I certainly would not pay some of the prices mentioned here - your just paying for reputation because they've inked some famous people. I'll bet before they inked these A-Listers - their prices were as normal as anyone elses. I've just found a fantastic tattooist here in Essex and would recommend them every time. waiting list of about month and half - but if your lucky you may get a cancellation.
I was once told that the key to a good tattooist is their free-hand writing........ and this one is the nuts!

For the detail and quality Louis puts into his, the extra is worth it, right up to and beyond 200ph. Its with you for life, and if its a meaningful custom design... detail is everything.

Fine line between paying for a skill and a name really. Same can be said in a lot of walks of life, but personally for a bog standard tattoo I would not expect to pay less than 70-80 per hour.

To me personally - tattoos are personal and not about who did them!

I do see what your saying - and I'll be honest here - I'm no walking ink studio - I've got three now in total, and only one I'm not happy with (which was my first). I agree that you get what you pay for. I have a fragon on my back which originally should've been £75 - I haggled a bit and paid just £45 - not bad haggling I thought! My recent was a written band around my wrist in memory of my brother - took about half hour - paid £35.

Indeed, all my tattoo's have a meaning, but the more important the meaning, the more important the quality also. Im not going to Louis because he has been on TV, nor because of the celebs he has done. But for the quality of his work.
Im sure COB would agree that the design I am looking to get done could look bloody awful if I got it done with thick undetailed lines etc.
Its a very VERY special design to me, and the sentiment is the most passionate yet, so its GOT to be right.
From the work I have seen from a LOT of artists, so far Louis is still the only one who comes through with enough detail. With exception to Chris Garver, and Kat Von De. There are prob some REALLY good artists out there, but there is only one chance at getting a tattoo right, so I want to be 100% sure of the outcome. Or as near as poss anyway.
