Sat Nav - good and bad

Not being sexist but as a bloke I can read maps and know (just like dogs) it's better to rely on your own intuition rather than ask for directions. But I admit that I have got Sat Nav on my Nokia N73 and at times it's very useful.
However, I'm looking into getting my girlfriend a Sat Nav system, I've never looked into this before and have no idea where to start, anyone got any pointers?
I'll probably wait till after Christmas and pick up an unwanted present from fleabay unless there're any good deals to be had before then.
Thanks in advance
Clint

Oh you still get the rows. Satnav can be out of date, send you into rivers, navigate you to the centre of Denbighshire instead of Denbigh town. Just stuff like that for fun

Budget ? I don't know what's required yet.
Europe would b useful and speed cameras very nice.
Taffic warning via phone and route recalculation would be ideal.
(I guess I'm talking high endnow aren't I)
Thank Robert I'll havea look at Garmin.

very useful if you're on your own, and don't know where you're going. If we all go out, I rely on my wife and a map, though sometimes have the sat nav on aswell. I find the road map can useful when in a strange town, with complex junction etc
