Iran that is.

OK so it seems generally accepted that to let Iran develop nuclear weapons is not on the cards.

But I don't see how Bush's heavy handed approach is going to help. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad doesn't seem the type to back down and the US stance will just make him more determined and unite the (very divided) Iranian people behind him?

Or is this a too simplistic view? I am slightly swayed by the fact that my old boss used to travel to Iran quite often and really enjoyed his trips and liked the business middle class that he was dealing with. But, of course, he wasn't dealing with the screwballs that run the country.

I think Bush is doing his Team America World Police bit again, which isn't too much of a shock. Ok, so Iran having nuclear weapons isn't really a good idea, and many countries agree about this, however, going in all gung-ho, thinking that what you want is right and you're backed by the whole world isn't a good thing.

I can see it getting very nasty indeed, and I really hope we (the UK we, and the Canadian we, seeing as I'm over here ) decide to tell Bush we don't want to be involved in whatever invasion/attack he wants to initiate against Iran.

I don't want things to escalate, I'm not that far from DC, which would be a nice target for a nuke, but part of me would like to see something happen to the US to make them realise they need to keep their bloody nose out of others business sometimes. They are not the best country in the world and they are not the world police and they need to be shown/told this in no uncertain terms.

Ahmadinejad is a little odd to say the least, and as said, I doubt he'll back down if Bush tries anything on, and from there on in, < insert deity here > help us all. Perhaps Bush is trying to deflect people away from the joke that is Iraq/Afghanistan? and Iran allows him to do this, the focus goes elsewhere.

If you thought the yanks were living in fear now, can you imagine what it'd be like if Iran does act against them?
