Its a think tank, think tanks come up with all sort of ideas all the time, that's why they are called think tanks.
Think about it logically - Do you really see this coming to any sort of fruition? So you see any evidence at all of Christmas being scaled back?

It emerged in 2006 that three out of four employers were not putting up Christmas decorations in the workplace for fear of offending staff of other cultures.

I would first of all like to say I am in no way racist and do not intend any of my rant to come across as racist.
My thinking is that people from other cultures chose to come and live here in the UK so they should respect our culture and our traditions
In principal its like these to$$ers that want to move out the city to the countryside then do nothing but complain and campaign about the smells coming from the local farm, the cockerel crowing in the morning and the noise coming from the field containing dozens of sheep or we have the people who move to the Isle of Man then complain about the roads being closed for various motorsports events throughout the year

Errm 2000 years go this country wasn't christian either, it was only because of imigrants forcing their views on the inhabitants that it slowly became so.
Personally I'd say ban xmas, diwalli, ramadahn etc and just have a 1 week national holiday sometime in the summer.

These Government Think Tanks are payed for by the Government, and as such are listened to by the Government. Why have them otherwise.

Think tank or not, this sort of attitude is undermining our country and our own traditions. It is an insult to British people that this sort of suggestion can be made when if we were settling in those other countries absolutely no concession would be made towards Christianity.
Those who want to settle in this country have to be prepared to accept our own culture without offence, no one is preventing them from following their own anyway. The very term "Showing even handedness to minority groups" is a contradiction in itself anyway.
Send the think tank off to foreign places to find out how they would be treated I say!

The real question is wether the immigrants themselves give a stuff about it, and I'd say the majority don't have a problem with Christmas or integrating, it's a very vocal minority, plus of course the overly PC government.
Some loony over here had a christmas tree removed from some government building due to her saying it'd cause offense to other faiths. When they interviewed people of other faiths who worked in the building they said that it was a complete farce and they liked the tree and wanted it back.
I do have issues with the general populace seemingly having to integrate with the ideals/cultures/religions of an immigrant population, it should be the other way round, as it is they who have come here.
Companies are foolish when they instigate rules banning things such as christmas decorations for fear of offending others. They think they are trying to appeal to all, when in fact they tend to just pish of the majority of people.
< Insert Deity here > help us if a company dared to say that a jewish person could not have a menorah on their desk to celebrate Hanukkah, there would be total uproar about it. But if a company does the same to good ol' christmas then we have to bow down and accept that.

Another question is who actually celebrates Xmas as a religious festival?
I certainly don't, for me Xmas is about Santa for the kids, and spending time with close family.
The presents thing is Pagen anyway
It could be in the middle of summer for all I care (although I accept that Odin - the original Santa had his festival at yule)

It might not have been christian, but there was still a christmas festival celebrated by the pagans. It was easier for the christian religion to adapt it to their ends than to try to suppress it or abolish it. Look it up if you don't believe me!

On a serious note, aren't all religions supposed to be founded on the principle of respect and tolerance, so I don't see why seeing someone celebrate a religious festival according to their beliefs shoud "offend" anyone???

Is it me or is this PC thing getting as out of hand as Health and Saftey? I understand itis required but surely only to a certain extent. Next we will be sitting watching TV of an evening to see a new advert asking us,,
"Have you been offended at work or in the car by a religious holiday? We are here to help and ensure you can make a fuss of nothing and claim money for sitting on your fat miserable PC ar$e"

Just one big shopping fest by bloated consumers and their spoilt offspring demanding the latest must have junk and being bought it too.

Christmas is overdone, its turned into a monster, a two day religious festival celebrated by those who aren't religous, its expensive and overblown and needs reigning in, people end up getting in debt to pay for it, it costs hundreds if not thousands of pounds, we all eat too much then sit around and have barney, the whole country stops for two weeks, everything revolves round a two day bank holiday for months before and some time after.
You see bloke proudly pushing a whole trolley full of beer round Tesco's the spend the whole festive season rat arsed.
I dont think its anything to do with Muslims, I dont expect they understand Christmas as we do it, to them its probably bemusing, the festival of chavvily decorated houses, eating sprouts and drinking till your sick, actual religous people tend to just celebrate the religous aspect and perhaps have a feast one day, not two weeks of troffing Celebrations sat in front of the telly.
Do the Muslims spend thousands on crap every year, my kids get so much stuff they dont know what to do with it, its obscene and there is so much pressure to buy stuff.
I am having two weeks off this Christmas, or having two weeks off when Christmas happens to occur, mainly as the office shuts down and I fancy a good stint off work but I kind of resent the fact Christmas will be in the middle of it.
Dont get me wrong, I enjoy some aspects of it but feel its got out of control and needs some common sense applying.

I don't think it's up to Government to tell us what we should and shouldn't celebrate. What would they do anyway, ban sales of beer for the week before and after?
I think it's absolutely right that people should have a big party to look forward to in the middle of winter, when it's cold and miserable, the summer holiday was ages ago and it's months until the next one.
I don't feel under any great pressure to do anything specific other than visit my (and my wife's) families. Sure I spend the afternoon of the 25th slumped on the sofa with a box of chocs and a barrel of beer, but what's wrong with that once a year?
