Sorry to hear that Tam. Its going to be a rough few weeks for you I reckon. Firstly the pain but then the stopping him doing stuff that boys do once it feels better but isnt healed. Little girl in my sons class(he's 5) wasnt even allowed out for playtime for about half a term.
All the best to him.

I might not sound much to some but when you have kids it is awful when they are hurt, much worse than if its you in pain.
Wishing him a speedy recovery.

I found it easier to sleep propped up in bed when I did mine (more than once). Keeping as much weight as possible off the arm at night helped, and using it as much as possible during the day speeded my recovery time *and* reduced the pain at night.
Other than that, there's nothing useful I can suggest apart from lots of TLC and Calpol... Sorry he's hurt - it's the pits when it's your own child, isn't it?![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

I did mine when I was about 9. He's young, so as has already been said, about 6 weeks to be fully mobile. He will be in pain for a couple of weeks. Try to get him to sleep on his back and rest it plenty. After a couple of weeks he'll start to be able to move it a bit and maybe after four weeks he can use it tentitively. Afer about 3-4 weeks I was back on my bike (much to the dismay of my mother!)

He's doing remarkably well, not moaning at all about it (if it was me i'd probably moan and groan constantly
)
He slept well last night propped up by about 6 pillows
It's not so bad when my other half is in as she's a nurse in a childrens ward and knows all the tricks, I on the other hand am useless
Thanx for all your good wishes guys, I'll let the wee fella read them, that'll make him
Cheers
Tam

i also broke my collar bone twice, it is not a nice bone to break (well none are really) as it cannot be secured with a plastercast. i had to have the figure-8 bandaged changed every few days which was quite painfull, also check on his circulation in his fingers and arm after a recent bandage change as some nurses can be a bit enthusiastic when bandaging and may go too tight, any tingling or numbness and straight back to the hospital....... the worst bit iswaking up in the morning, so be ready to help him out of bed poss give him a bell or buzzer or summit in case he needs to get up in the middle of the night. and as mentioned, try to encourage him to move the shoulder joint slightly to prevent a frozen shoulder, speak to the doctor about this
