Default changing driving licence from paper to photo

As above, do you have to pay a fee?. My mrs has filled all the forms out for us both and lost the information that is included with the form.

Does anyone know how much this is, had a look on the website and its not too helpful but says that you have to pay £10 for doing it online but there is nothing on the form itself saying what you need to pay.

Thanks
Dave

If you're changing address, it used to be free to swap them... presume it still is, but I've not looked recently.

it cost £10 according to the website - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...nce/DG_4022084

the boss keeps asking me to change mine but i prefer the paper 1 (even though it's got lots of expired points on it)

I've just done it. Cost £22 and I did it all online. If you have a UK passport they can lift your photo and signature from the database so you don't need to send in any supporting documentation.

I applied on a Friday and received my new licence on the Tuesday. Just in time to send off and get 3 points put on it

Yes, i did it online using my passport photo and signature from their database, very quick and effecient, and did'nt cost me a penny because it was a change of addresss, but i could'nt help wondering all the time i was doing it, just how secure it really was!

Isnt there some problem with leaving expired points on it? Best get a clean one.

My plastic one was free when I changed my address, but that was 6 years ago now. Flash has probably had that freebie removed

You can have as many expired points on them as you like. But it's probably not advisable, especially if you need to produce it when applying for a job for instance

I'm not changing mine to a plastic one - I'm sorry but the looks (and comments) I get when I pull out a folded bit of paper - which the selotape has dried up and gone brittle on is hilarious - The last time I had a producer ( about 5 years ago) person behind the desk took one look at it and just told me to go ! Its worth it for that ! It will get repaired (by DVLA) when I send it back some time to get the expired points removed off it !

I think that they'll make you change it for a photo ID one when you send it in.

Can they insist on this if there is a fee?

I certainly woudn't pay to change my paper licence. Can't see any advantage whatsoever with the photo card.

Clicky

As requested

SB

PS DVLA will automatically issue a photocard licence as they no longer do the proper paper ones. I'd have stayed with my old one out of choice...

I believe so, if it's just to remove the points, but if you change your address it's free

Because if you present the information to a prospective employer, they are entitled to make a judgement based on that information. If you don't present it, because prior offences are expunged from your record after a period of time, they cannot access it any other way.

I for one know that if I was given a choice between one person with say 3 points on their licence, and another with a whole array of points dated over several years, the first guy is getting the job
