Thumbs down Slipping standards - txt spk evolved

I understand where TXT SPK (text speak) came from, but with mobile phones now having predictive text it is now actually easier to type full words.

But what really gets me is the MSN/Face Book/You Tube generation who, given a full qwerty keyboard, still manage to butcher the English language.

Here is a couple of examples I found on youtube

i think dats a bit to harsh!!!
i understand and dnt say its betta den snow patrol..afta all they are the origanl..

but u cant take nuttin away from her..this was breathtakin and to say its live!!omg
Agree wiv UKisBEST. Awesum version ov an alredy classic tune. 6 out ov 5. Tremendous potential. Sod the Spice Girls! This is wat is needed 4 CIN!!!

Love the way most of them try to sound like american rap artists.Unless that is an accidental bi product of 'thick spk'

Don't see how going in reverse to caveman speak is progress though?

lol - grumpy old men. You could have said EXACTLY the same at any point in history when the "normal" language was replaced by alternatives.

Lozgti.......i think what you actually meant to say was "i don't see how...." I am unsure as to why you failed to include the I in your sentence? Perhaps you felt it unnessersary and assumed that I, and others, would deduce your point, irrespective of its incorrect grammatical presentation? or mabe u iz just a lazzzzzzy dude....isit.

Maybe it's not so much the change in language but the rate of change?

And loads of crap english usage got left by the wayside. Just because it's different does not mean it's progressive. Of course the language evolves...into something better, NOT into something worse...this is what the garbage text speak is.

Only in your opinion......When you see your mates do you greet them by saying "good day sir, how are you this fine English morning" or do you say "hi".......now Mr Darcy may think that is a decline in English!

Its an indication of the high educational standards today as we keep being told.

I would rather keep our proper english language personally.

If they used the Firefox web browser they could have used the inbuilt dictionary when entering into text fields. Though I suspect it will just show them lines of red underlined text...

Has anyone seen the 'Armstrong and Miller' show on BBC2 Friday night? It has an excellent sketch where two RAF chaps are speaking 'street' but in upper class accents.

Actually TXT speak isn't just about the speed of input, it's about message length as well.

BBC NEWS | UK | Human species 'may split in two'

"Evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry of the London School of Economics expects a genetic upper class and a dim-witted underclass to emerge."

And they will use words like Awesum, ov, wat, betta & afta!

To be fair, this is not the forum to be complaining about slipping standards of English.

I did. Very funny. Here's the Youtube link..

YouTube - RAF Pilots - Armstrong and Miller

I also liked the one about the Miss Harwood and Captain something on the dance floor of a ball. The overly flowery language used in the conversation was excellent.

I don't like text speak as it can be difficult to decipher, but I think that 'ov' and 'of' would make more sense than 'of' and 'off'
