Default Paint Help

Bit of a dilemma.

I need to remove some hammerite from some chromed metal. Anyone got any good ideas?.
Or am i likely to lose the chrome too if i use something to get the hammerite off?.

Maybe my foward planning didnt work out as i thought it would a few months ago.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers Dave

Chrome polish is a mild abrasive and should dislodge the paint without affecting the chrome too much. Certainly try softening it with a solvent first

cellulose thinner or paint stripper will do the job without damaging the chrome, use a plastic scraper to dislodge the paint after soaking, paint stripper is best as it will soak in thinners will evaporate.

do not use abrasives as this can damage the chrome finish

Which ever you use wear gloves, especially with paint stripper!

The fumes are vile, do in a well ventillated area.

Hammerite is actually based on Xylene, so cellulose thinners aren't THAT good at removing it.

Screwfix and decent DIY places sell Hammerite thinners, or "Hammered enamel thinners" which DO contain Xylene.
