![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Want to buy one for my parents who are not exactly the best with technology so software / menu layout would need to be good
I'm looking to spend £40 and wondered if anyone could recommend a good unit - pref one that does not lose settings / stations when turned off at the wall (I've heard some of them do)
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

I just bought one of these for the bedroom telly. nice and tidy, no wires or ugly boxes. Menu is easy enough.

We've got a SAGEM, £30 IIRC from Comet. It Autosetup and it doesn't loose channels when switched off. Also the interactive features on it are quick, unlike our the ones on our PVR ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Buy SAGEM ITD62 | Freeview box - Digital TV | Comet
Or if you like Chip's type they're cheaper at Comet too!
Buy METRONIC DIGI-SCART | Digital freeview scart plug-in - Digital TV | Comet

I don't think there is anything easier to set up than a freeview box! You plug it in and it does everything for you.
I have had 2 cheap ones for the bedroom, the first lasted about 18 months, but at 20 quid, i just replaced it with another 20 quid one from Tescos.
Menus are the same on both of them and very easy to use, but more basic than our freeview recorder.
As to brands, they seem to be made by complete unknown manufacturers... so wouldn't know what's a good one at the cheaper end of the market.

Stick to a good make. There are several out there. Panasonic and Sony both have good reputations for set top boxes. There are others too, I forget the names. I had a good chat with an honest member of sales staff in a large high street retailer. Basically I bluntly asked which brands had the lowest number of returns, and then bought one of those

I had a cheapy Asda one and it didn't cope well with the poor signal at home. Sagem is much better in this regard.
My Mother In Law's Philips (a good make?) is forever hanging and needs to have the power removed to get it to work again.
You can't go too far wrong if you spend £30 IMHO
