Not too bothered about cost or warranty stuff like that, as most offer the same deals. Just want the best picture possible.

Pioneer are usually rated top with Pana a close second. Fujitsu are very respected amongst AV-philes if you want to spend more. If you can wait 'til after Chrimbo your budget will get you much more !

I would suggest you visit AVForums, but they're so often a miserable, unhelpful and critical bunch You might get lucky and stumble on the friendly one though

In the Pana range the '0' and '00' are the same panel but the '00' gets minor ancillary enhancements such as better speakers (no need if you have an AV system), SD card slots (usually have them on DVD players etc or a USB on the TV anyway) and slightly neater styling. A lot of money extra normally for not much extra product and no performance improvement.

sti04 is right, the PZ700 is an older model. It doesn't display 1080p/24 properly which will become a big issue with HDDVD / Bluray.
The Pioneer mentioned is supposedly the best although its only 720. My money would go on the PX70 which can be had for £700 now, or a PZ70 for full HD (£1000).

The PZ70 is a pain if you're short on room though, as they added speakers to make it a lot wider than the PX70.
As for the Pioneer 428, it may be slightly better than the Panny, but it costs TWICE as much, rip off.
I'll go for a PZ or PX70 in January/February.

Pana PZ range are 1080, the PX range are 768.
70's are the same panel with less features than the otherwise identical but overpriced 700's, whether PX (768) or PZ(1080).
Look at the table I posted above which is a screengrab from the Panasonic website comparator.
Panasonic PZ70 is the best choice for full 1080 HD at the best price in their range.

I've got both, LCD in the bedroom (32" Philips) and plasma for the living room (50" Pana). I find plasma gives a more film-like, or even life-like image than LCD, which to me looks artificial. Images on perfectly good films can look a bit made-for-TV on the LCD as even filmed stuff appears video'd. The wider colour palette, richer contrast and quicker refresh makes for a more natural viewing experience IMHO.

TopBanana you're talking about the component wire in back only aren't ya.
You might get 1080p 24 through the HDMI cable, i don't know this although worth asking before buying.

Also depends what the source is - PX is better at SD stuff than PZ apparently as PZ scales it. We will only watch SD so the PX is better for us, and £300+ cheaper
Regardless of what people think, you really cant tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p on a 42" set.

I too am in the market for a new 42"tv and was also thinking of the Panasonic.
Just to clear a couple of things up.
1) Whats the difference between PZ and PX ??
2) Is the 42PZ70 better than the 42PZ700? and is there any picture quality difference?
3) What is the 42PZ70B? what is the B. ?
