Torn muscle in shoulder - Advice
Been told to rest it, HOW. Its in the right shoulder, my prime shoulder for work. Computer based.
Any ideas on how to control the pain and work at the same time
It's a bitch and has been going on for about 5 weeks now, not getting any better.
Have been using that Ibuprofen gel stuff as I am not keen on tablets.

Get some of those cura-heat patch things from Boots - apparently last for 12 hours - heat helps
hope it feels better soon, L!

Physio is the way mate. I just got back from a session at mine actually.
Damaged rotator cuff now much better thanks to ultra sound and accupuncture.
Not cheap but worth it.
Now being treated for my lower back too. All posture related, hence off sick too right now.

When it does get better - invest in a bit of time down the gym to gently exercise it to stop recurrence.
Just had a minor tear myself which has only got better from enforced gym layoff due to other illness

You can help it by RICEing it
Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (RICE) -
This seems to be the common advice for all muscle related injuries. It may help in the short term (I'm doing at the moment with a torn calf muscle) but physio will speed the healing process.

Not sure if this is a recommended solution but I had a torn calf muscle a few years back and alternated with Paracetemol and Ibuprofen so that one took over as the other was waning. Also felt the anti inflammatory properties of the Ibuprofen helped a little.
Also worked when I tweaked my back a while back too.
Not sure how to elevate a shoulder!
Small Print: No liability will be accepted as a result of following advice given blah, blah, blah, blah.......

Whatever you do, DON'T take ibuprofen on an empty stomach. I did and it caused me really bad stomach pains which had to be treated with further medication.

Yep Physio is the only way with rotator cuff injurys. They are a nightmare when they go and recovery is slow. No quick fixes with this one. 5 months down the line and only now am I seeing definate recovery.

Im 2 months in with the rotator cuff treatment, and its still painful but usable now. Sadly due to over compensation, I now have muscle issues in my mid back too.
All started with tennis elbow. What a nightmare and an expensive one at that.
Not going back to work til they get things sorted though, not going through all this pain again.

I thought it might have been a fluke, but a colleague at the time was also suffering, so I passed the leftovers on to him, it worked and he then passed it on to another colleague, for whom it also worked, so might be worth a go.
Aveda was the make I used. Google it.

I tried it years ago, when I had tennis elbow. It didn't feel any better the next morning, but by the end of the day, it was sooooooooo much better, and I haven't had it since.

Seriously get down to your Docs if you're not on anything prescribed.

Trying to steer clear of meds at the mo as I have no food intake to compliment them. Dont like taking them at the best of times, but manage the pain by stopping whatever im doing. Being off sick helps no end.

you wont see, and are unlikely to feel the needles, so dont rule it out just yet. Last 3 sessions I have had upto about 14 needles in my back, and shoulder I was having about 7 or 8.

L - I've had acupuncture for a whiplash injury.. had it in my neck, shoulder and head.. I am terrified of needles and must say you don't really feel it unless they hit a sensitive patch when they twiddle the needles...
The results? It didnt do anything for me so back to normal physio
