Thumbs down HIPS contain valuable environmental information ... discuss.

HIPS on the BBC news.

I believe that it's Housing Minister Yvette Cooper who thinks the energy performance certificate will make us think twice about buying an inefficient home.

But surely most people choose a home primarily based on proximity to a good school, what the garden and garage are like, transport links, crime rates, etc.

The likelihood of finding two equal properties based on those criteria, where the EPC swayed the decision is negligible. Besides which, most of the energy efficiency measures, insulation, boiler, double glazing, even energy saving lightbulbs FFS can be fitted retrospectively to any property.

What's the point

And the last straw: "Homeowners who have not commissioned a Hip by the time they market their property can face fines of up to £200 a day." Why not let the market decide? If its such a valuable asset then people would be prepared to pay a premium to sell their house.

If the pack had contained a house survey they'd have been worthwhile.

Currently they are just useless.
