Question

Why do some folk insist on coming out of muppets and trivialising every thread?

Not mentioning anyone by name, but I thought the person in question had taken their ball home?

Anyway, yes, a tumble drier has brushes, and that would be the first thing I'd check, followed by, is the belt still tight?

not all dryers have brushes! - and, usually, if the start/run capacitor is gone the drum doesnt move at all (just a 'humming' noise). a drum moving slower than normally is often a faulty motor - what make is yours??

So what you are saying is that just because some leave for a while they cannot use the scooby net community

Are capacitors expensive?
Capacitors are relativly cheap, the problem your gonna have is sourcing one for the brand u have. Might be worth taking the old one out and go to a local motor rewinders and have them match one, as long as it's the same rating and micro fared (Spelling?) you should be ok.

I had a similar problem with ours, belt seemed tight but when I put the drier on with the lid off you could see it slipping. I put a new belt on and it has been fine ever since.

Nope. But I wish they wouldn't just post-***** and trivialise everything

Take the panel off at the back and you'll see the motor.

Also, that post about belt slipping was worth checking too. They do stretch.........

Do you have a tame repair shop near you? We have a good one that will advise, sell parts for you to do the job, test parts you take off, and do the job if you can't.

given the age of your machine, u are probably better off buying a new one. I'm sure the wifey would appreciate a tumble dryer as a chrimbo pressie!

Hi, Best way to test if the capacitor has gone is put a match stick or similar in the door switch so the machine thinks the door is shut.
Then switch the machine on with the door still open and give the drum a push with your hand and see if it will keep turning at the right speed by itself.
If it does then yes it is the cap
Most tumble dryers dont have Carbon brushes.
Andrew
Ps if you get stuck and need a cap let me know I can sort one out for you

Seems a shame to bin it and spend £140 - £175 on a new unit when a repair may only be a couple of quid...
