Any tumbledryer experts? Mines broke...
It is spinning very slowly, had it a long time. Done a google search and only thing I can seem to find is that the capacitor might need replacing.
Anyone had to fix theirs before? I've had the top off and the belt seems fine. I take it they don't have brushes on the motor like a washing machine does?

Why do some folk insist on coming out of muppets and trivialising every thread?
Not mentioning anyone by name, but I thought the person in question had taken their ball home?
Anyway, yes, a tumble drier has brushes, and that would be the first thing I'd check, followed by, is the belt still tight?

Cheers Alcazar, yes the belt still seems tight. Apparently when there is washing in it it doesn't spin at all.
The brushes in a washing machine are at the top when you take the lid off and easy to change. I took the lid off the tumble dryer and all you see is the bloody huge drum. Would the brushes be behind the big panel you have on the back of tumble dryers instead of at the top like in washing machines?
I thought it was brushes becasue its the same symptoms as when the brushes go on a washing machine but just couldn't see the brushes in the dryer.

not all dryers have brushes! - and, usually, if the start/run capacitor is gone the drum doesnt move at all (just a 'humming' noise). a drum moving slower than normally is often a faulty motor - what make is yours??

Its a Crusader Sensorcare lol so I think that's a Comet home brand and between 5 and 10 years old. Its taken a right hammering in its time so its lasted bloody well with 3 kids.
If I have to get a new one I will but if its a simple repair then I don't see the point in chucking it.
Are capacitors expensive?

Take the panel off at the back and you'll see the motor.
Also, that post about belt slipping was worth checking too. They do stretch.........
Do you have a tame repair shop near you? We have a good one that will advise, sell parts for you to do the job, test parts you take off, and do the job if you can't.

Hi, Best way to test if the capacitor has gone is put a match stick or similar in the door switch so the machine thinks the door is shut.
Then switch the machine on with the door still open and give the drum a push with your hand and see if it will keep turning at the right speed by itself.
If it does then yes it is the cap
Most tumble dryers dont have Carbon brushes.
Andrew
Ps if you get stuck and need a cap let me know I can sort one out for you
