Question Annoying washing machine leak - boring I know but please help!

Our four year old Hotpoint Aquarius washine machine has developed an annoying habit since we moved house. Sometimes when it fills with water the water goes into the powder drawer and comes straight out of the front of the drawer all over the floor despite the drawer being closed.

I have noticed that the the force of the water can push the drawer out a tiny bit so my question is this, is the pressure of the water coming in too much (mains fed supply, no cold tank here)? If it is this how can I stop it doing it, can the incoming feed pressure be reduced?

The floor is tiled so it's not a major issue but I am getting fed up of mopping the floor every day when I do some washing

Does sound like the pressure is too high. Should be easy enough to sort, try closing the tap on the cold water feed a bit to reduce the pressure.

I suffered from this problem with my washer. I changed from using powder to liquitabs and this solved the issue. I also have a tiled floor which made the mopping up easier.

HTH.

Ant

BTW Hotpoint

Ant, I use liquid in a ball so it's just water on the floor which isn't too bad. The other half chose the Hotpoint - what can you do, men huh?

Thanks Graz, I didn't realise it was that simple

Exclamation

My 10 year old Hotpoint does that now and again, I assume you have taken the drawer out and cleaned all the gunge off, they do get mucky and don't shut properly (even though they look like it's fully closed), also as mentioned just turn the tap closed a but on the feed, this will help.

That's exactly what happened with our Zanussi. However after 2 months or so being de-gunked (least the kitchen floor was very clean around it!!) , it is now making a rather odd and very loud noise all the time so we think something mechanical has gone now too. At least it lasted for over 10 years!

Elf, I can hear Santa shouting you... (apparently he's stuck to a frozen toilet seat) 'Elf, Elf, get your podgy *** through here and help pull me off!'

If ou only use liquid in a ball and never use the drawer, and all else fails, glue it shut.

[whisper]

Chaps, this is just my cunning plan to get her to mop the floor...tell her it's a design feature or summat and she'll never know

[/whisper]

I wondered if it was a design feature, surely if your clothes are dirty it's from the dirty floor and that should be cleaned too, right?
