just pop down to the shop where you have seen it andask for a sample then take it home and pop it along side your units and your wife/girlfriend will make all your decisions for you.

Personally I wouldn't put wood or laminate in the kitchen. Laminate can be damaged by water spillage. Tiles would be better and if well laid should last a lifetime. Also with tiles you won't have issues of the two different kinds of wood (ie floor and units) clashing
imho!

There are laminates out there that are designed for kitchen / bathroom use, we laid some a few weeks ago. Not a fan of laminate myself, I would say a decent hardwood would be ok as long as there are no moisture problems / slow leeks.
But personaly I'd would always tile a kitchen / bathroom floor.
PS: I have a solid white oak floor in my living room and hallway, looks fantastic!
