Default Sky+ vs PVR

What's the difference? From what I gather you can record, pause, rewind TV on PVR just as you can on Sky+. Can you record Sky stuff through a PVR or have they done it in such a way that you can only record off Sky through a Sky+ box

sky+ has dual LNB, so can record one sky channel and watch another at the same time, "pvr" will work fine

Depends on the PVR. A lot of the freeview ones just directly record the broadcast stream without re-encoding it. They cannot record from an external source such as Sky or cable. Mostly the ones that have a DVD in that can record from an external source.

At the end of the day, it depends what you're wanting to record, but if you wanna record quite a bit from sky, I would think Sky+ would be the way to go, with a DVD recorder for archiving.

Don't forget sky+ has the "series link" function so you just have to set the box to record the first of a series, then press series link and it'll record the whole series for you.

If you already have Sky then Sky+ is a no brainer really.

There's no longer a £10 surcharge, recordings are the same quality as live TV and you use Sky's straight forward EPG guide and have series link etc.

I couldn't live without it now, it's very rare we watch something as it's broadcast we just record everything we would like to watch and then watch it when we want to.

Cheers

sky+ is simple and easy to use, PVR's etc tend to be a bit more of a pin to use.

But if you already have Sky and are happy with the service then Sky+ is the best option. IMO far simpler than the Humax and far cheaper if you do a bit of dealing with Sky Customer Services. Once you have the Sky+ box there is no longer a monthly subscription to pay.
Or you could go the full monty and have HD in. Sky+ is a standard feature of the HDbox.
