Filled up here today as was running low, I will up twice a week and my car takes about 52 litres of fuel (even if its been on orange for 20 odd miles!)
They have installed new p@p pumps so I put my fuel card in and start entering my mileage and registration number etc, half was thru stupid bint behind desk thinks I cant work pump and shouts out over tannoy "you have to press pay at kiosk to get fuel"
I signal to her that i'm paying at pump
.
Anyhows after enerting my details the pump tells me I can only put in a max of £50
, I canel transaction as I want a full tank of fuel (getting pissed of filling it every 2 days as it is)...
So I fill up and manager to get 55 litres into tank without trying, I go into shop and tell stupid bint that the pumps may be wrong as I have only ever managed to get 52 litres into my 50 litre tank, she takes offence to this as though i'm trying it on
.
I point out to her that I don't pay for my fuel and that i'm only advising her that she is ripping people off
.
sorry for such a long boring story, but thats the end...
so if you are ever desperate enough to goto morrisons and you are in Sheffield, beware that they are stealing 3/4 litres of fuel from you
.
Funny thing is my colleage at work was telling me that he must have been really low on fuel as his clio sport took 49 litres of fuel in shi 45 litre fuel tank, and he had been to the same filling station today

I believe the permissible tolerances for petrol stations are quite wide as they were set a while ago when flow meters were pretty inaccurate.
Newer flow meters are more accurate, but petrol stations can take advantage of the wide tolerances by metering their fuel "optimistically" while still remaining within the permissible limits.
You can bet that they aren't often going to be giving you more fuel than they are charging you for.

The TANKS hold 50 (or whatever) litres. How much does the fuel lines and filler neck take? 5 litres in the neck doesn't sound unfeasible. However, worth raising in case there is dodgy goings on.
