Question Any insurers which treat 2 cars under one policy?

Probably the title is a bit vague. What I am debating is moving back to 2 cars (911TT and a 4WD like an X5).
Will any insurer cover both cars with me only driving (and thus knowing I can only drive one car at any time)without applying a second policy on the 2nd car?

Good luck. I've tried with a few insurers and they don't care that you can only drive one at a time. Best I've managed is to negoitiate a discount for giving them double the business.

I'd also be happy to hear if anyone has achieved this and who with.

Admiral do a multicar policy, they'll still both have to be insured though as if one was stolen etc while you were out in the other you'd want to make a claim.

Lots of companies will do multicar policy's, they are aimed at getting Mum, Dad and all the kids in a house insured with them.

I've yet to find one that takes into account that while your out in one car, the second vehicle really only needs the Fire and Theft part, as technically the chances of it damaging another vehicle or it crashing are very slim.

A hefty discount should, IMO, be given due to this fact.

Use a broker, you'll spend an age online trying to resolve it. A Plan found an underwriter that would mirror the NCB on my main car policy onto a second car new policy, massive saving against doing individually. (and you can negotiate further with them.)

Direct Line did this for me... it was still two policies but they let me use my no-claims bonus (i.e. the same NCB) on both cars as I was the sole driver of both vehicles and thus could only drive one at a time - a WRX and a 306 GTi-6.

Is this a bit like getting a policy for my house that I only pay for when I am at home, so I get a discount for when I am away at a hotel.

You cannot have 2 cars on one policy.
Companies may match your no claims on another car but that's about it.

Your best bet is to go for something like an admiral multicar. I have 4 cars on mine and it works out to quite a saving over the year, about £800 saved.

I'm sure this is a market that should be exploited by someone. I'm trying to do the same at the minute, and I replied to a similar thread today on the 205 forum about insuring 4 cars on 1 policy.

Surely loads of us have wekend cars now, so there is an opportunity for someone to make decent money from this?

You think by now they'd insure the person rather than the car, i.e. Gene Hunt £800 can drive anything....

Why not?... it's not unlike Company car insurance... is it?

Norwich Union have a multi car policy that allows up to 4 vehicles under 1 policy they will mirror the bonus on each one providing you havnt made a claim in the last 12 months and that the driving restriction is iod or ias.

ive three cars under one policy with the scoob on limited mileage - they also do full breakdown inc homstart and Euro cover for £45 for 1 car or £37 per vehicle if theres more than one vehicle.

Trouble is that if you have a claim you lose your NCD on both cars!

I have 2 cars and 2 policys - I have built up NCD on both cars, therefore a claim on one will not affect the other NCD wise. The claim will be declared, but should not affect the NCD.

that doesnt apply to the NU policy.

The ncb is mirrored and is separate on each vehicle, so if you prang one it doesnt affect the other.

This is also noted on the schedule where you will see separate ncb apportioned to each vehicle - you also have the option of protecting each ncb.

Has anyone heard of introductory bonus?
Ive had two cars insured before and they took into consideration my other no claims discount and game me a bigger discount in relation to it.

You must beware of UnderWriting 'tricks' if you play one off against another - I've fallen into that trap before

As above, most brokers will mirror NCB onto a second policy. Works well this way, as if you have a claim on one car is doesn't reduce the NCB on the other.

ps....for those who always tell us ''i can only drive one at a time'', yes you can, but you can have both stolen at the same time

I have my 205 insured by you Gary - do you do the mirrored NCB as I'm thinking of buying an Impreza as well.
