I prefer any Star Wars original film. The rebels against The Emporer. A small force of good against the evil empire, anyway enough about the infraction system

I agree with astraboy - a great movie . More accurate with respect to deep space travel than any of the tripe served up by Lucas or his ilk.I thought 2010 was also very good - it is science fiction , but no reason not to get right what we do know as a law of physics.
I hated Star Wars because of the total disregard to Newtonian Laws and every school kid knows "theres no sound in space "

2001 lost the Oscar for the best makeup (the Apes at the beginning) to the film Plant of the Apes.
When asked why an unconvincing Dr Zeuss in a chimp suit was better than the opening sequence of 2001 the judges apparently said "what make-up, we thought that they were real"
As a piece of film making this was way, way ahead of its time
