F-ing cars without mud flaps.
Had the V40 screen replaced last week due to a nice long crack along the top. Its been there for about 4 months, as well as some other little impact cracks & chips from stones.
And what happens today, a fecking escort, no mud flaps and a f off stone hit the new screen
I'm threadders, wanted to stop him and give him rock all. But what can you do?
I know this happen, the scoob has a load of chips that need sorting, but after a week, at one point could only giggle to myself, while the misses was venting off
It is her car, and she did pay the access for the screen.

Annoying isn't it? A 'mate' cleaned my old Fiesta screen with alloy wheel cleaner...it got the bugs off like nothing I've ever seen but the ripple effect it etched into the glass soon got tiring! Still, could be worse, he did the boss's nearly new 7 series too!
After I got that screen replaced I was on the motorway when my phone rang, I pulled into lane one behind a truck and answered the phone (twas about 6 years before it was 'dangerous' ). Within seconds, a stone had embedded itself in my screen! The caller never paid up despite me insisting it was his fault!
Mates, who needs 'em!

Try keeping a resonable gap from the car in front, it may lessen the impact.
I've been caught by cars going in the opposite direction, i'm not sure if flaps would help in that case.

I think it should become law to have a flap of some kind, with specifications such as it must reach to within 100mm of the road surface and be in-line with each rear wheel and of the same or greater width as the wheel and tire. I also think all larger vehicles should have bristles fitted around their wheel arches to reduce spray at speed. Of course, these suggestions may save lives and make driving safer and more pleasant, but as there is no way to automatically police the measures it will be ignored completely in favour of polices which can be roboticaly policed and the relevant fines and penalties collected easily Much like the way our government will not authorise the use of porous Tarmac as it is twice the price, yet in countries such as Germany it has been proven to significantly reduce accidents. As it doesn't bring money in, forget it

Scott, it could be designed as part of the bodywork, or perhaps an extension of the arch liner. Not all flaps are vivid red and floppy like the WRC wannabees !

Not every one has a bleeding Ferrari, and one that do only drive on nice days and not in Suffolk. It was the the V40, V for volvo, that I was in. And if a Ferrari driver had a slammed into his screen, bet he'd be wishing that it was a requirement. Do you own one????????????????

Exactly... As they are designed on most cars (within reason) you buy today
Paddi, to turn around and whinged that cars should have them is pathetic, maybe you should run for transport minister with ideas like that!

Dont drive so close to the car in front then
That would reduce any impact that may happen
The main reason stone chips etc happen are from driving too close to the car in front, then people complain about it, I dont think ive ever seen anyone anywhere (mainly rush hour) driving the correct distance apart

you will probably find the replacement screen was a cheap pattern replacement part. had exactly the same on a golf, original lasted 210k of motorway abuse, the replacement got a bullet hole within two weeks.

I spent months looking for the right Skyline GTR, found one with perfect bodywork, not a mark or a chip to be seen. Picked it up on a Saturday, on the Tuesday drove it to work and whilst I was overtaking a car on the dual carriageway, a rock the size of a satsuma got thrown up into my path which hit the leading edge of the bonnet denting it and removing a large chunk of paint I was doing 60mph and the rock went bounced vertically up off the bonnet, probably hit a Boeing 777 and then came down a week later smashing some poor sods windscreen.
