BBC NEWS | Education | Metal detectors plan for schools
Quote "Chris Huhne, for the Liberal Democrats, said the move was "sad but necessary" and urged greater use of stop and search powers to combat knife crime. "
Agreed, less PC, kid gloves aproach and more proactive policing

I was in the UK over christmas/NY etc and went to my mates house where he showed me a set of new Ceramic kitchen knives he just bought, they were razor sharp and didn't blunt easily. Also as they are not metal would not show up on a metal detector so lets just wait for kids to start carrying ceramic kitchen knives when they realise they don't show up on metal detectors.

Another ill-thought out idea from Lying Labour, the party you can trust, (to come up with attractive-to-Sun-and-Mirror-readers bullsh*t)![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Firstly, will there be barriers at all entrances? Most secondary schools I know of have more than one building each having more than one entrance. A bit costly, methinks?
Secondly, WHO will man the barriers? Each barrier would need a minimum of four adults, two male, two female, to stop and search those who set off the alarm, one pair to search the other to continue to watch for the alarm to go off.
Thirdly, has ANYONE in the Labour party ever worked in a school? Just imagine the chaos when the line coming in gets stopped because the alarm goes off.
And imagine the disruption caused by the kids using it as an excuse to be late, plus the staff made late by manning it.
Fourthly, who will pay for the scanners, and if not manned by staff, who will pay the staff needed to man them?

I cannot imagine it working, but they need to be seen to be doing something.
Just how do these kids get knives without their parents knowing? Where do they keep them? I suppose the more important issue is, why do they want one...but then everywhere feels so unsafe they feel they need them. Vicious circle, dunno the answer.
Harsher sentences would be the start of course.
