Default Reconnecting a BT line - cost?

Sorry for the prob sill question, but have looked on their website, but cannot find info on this.

If there is a BT line already in the property, but hasnt been connected since moving in, will they charge to reconnect the phone line?

Also I thought that all phone lines were the property of BT and the other comapnies used/hired them etc, basically is there any way to know if its BT or not that was here?

I think if it's all installed and in good order, then re-connecting is free. A new installation however is circa £125

I've got a line running into the house, master socket already fitted, but line not live (previous owner).

BT want £125 to reconnect it. Tried to bargain with them, no deal.....

used to be free, all installs are chargeable now regardless of who the service provider is, some service providers do absorb the cost and offer deals etc, the reasoning behind this is the installation and maintenance side of BT, Openreach, bill every service provider equally, and it is up to the service provider if they pass the bill to the customer.

Used a excellent company that only change £99.00 residential connection of phone line or new phone line install.

However, if they don't need to send an engineer out to your property they only charge you £25. Also pay line rental of £8.99 a month. Saving over £50 per year compared to BT. http://www.phoneyou.co.uk

Same here when I moved house I was an existing BT customer but the people that lived here before changed the line to bulldog and BT charged me to put it back I'm in the communications industry and I knew what was involved but they lied to me and still charged me

They charge it because they know they can

we paid £125 to be re connect up, as the house we bought had had NTL for years with no BT line.

The £125 did get a discount down to about £85.
