Dog help --- Urgent
Hi guys,
My dog doesnt seem to be well. Came into tonight, & he's jumping up & looking behind him as if he's trying to catch something. Hes not distressed as such as his tail is wagging but his wee heart is going quite fast.
I watched him for about 5 minutes & he just kept jumping, he is also very jumpy at every sound.
Totally out of character.
He's in his cage at the moment so i can at least restrict his access, turned the radio up a bit in the kitchen & left him too it. Lights are on dimmed.
Anyone got any idea's

Sounds like something has scared the hell out of him perhaps.. monitor him for a while, sit with him and reassure him and if no improvement perhaps call a vet for advice
Hope he is ok.

Dog worms are responsible for so much sickness and so many symptoms that it is practically impossible to mention all of them, but their presence can safely be suspected in all dogs which have not been recently treated for them, as well as in cases where the patient is run down, unthrifty and out of sorts.
Other symptoms are a hot, dry nose, weak, watery eyes, pale lips and gums, foul breath, mean hacking cough and a red, scurfy, pimply or irritated condition of the skin and harsh, dry, staring coat that is constantly being shed.
Wormy dogs sometimes have a depraved appetite and will eat dirt and rubbish. Some days they are ravenously hungry, the next day they will not eat at all; their sleep is disturbed by dreams and intestinal rumbling, the urine is high colored and frequently passed, bowels irregular, stomach easily unsettled, watery mucus is frequently vomited and the mouth is hot, sticky and full of ropy saliva.

Noone has been setting off fireworks, or has a car backfired outside your house? Any loud unusual noisies can freak dogs of any age out - particularly young ones like yours. Best for him to have his cage available if that is a familiar area, as he may seek this for comfort. Keep an eye on him - he will probably be okay, but if you have any concerns a quick call to the vet in the morning wouldnt go amiss

perhaps he was having a nightmare where a horrible man came towards him with a big scalpel and cut off his little bits of dog-hood... bet you'd wake up with a racing heart if you had a dream like that

More than likely spooked by something or somebody if he's edgy around every sound. Just stay cool but reassuring around him.
Incidentally who recommended he should have his tackle cut off at such an early age?

Wouldn't touch a medium sized dog until he's at least 12 months old due to hormones and growth to be honest. It's often blamed for dogs then having small heads and chests as they get older. I'm not surprised you got that advice though.

Nothing wrong with him allegedly. Vet wants me to monitor him over the next few days & to try to restrict his freedom a little so i can take his mind off it.

Could he have stepped in something or brushed against something that has caused an allergic reaction? One of mine did this a few years ago and was hopping about like a mad one, jumping from one paw to the other but once I'd taken him to the vets who sedated him and gave him a complete wash down he was fine.

It does sound like he was scared by something, maybe someone coming to the door ? Other thought that occured when you mentioned you lived in the middle of nowhere, have you looked round the outside of the house to see if someone has been in the back garden ? A long shot, but if someone was snooping around or trying to break in, then it could have scared the dog.
