I've got a Samsung DVD SH853M, I've done a trawl through Google and can't seem to find anything that helps.
Anyone got a code or do I have to get it zapped.
Just moved to Aus and need to release my PC as well so help would be appreciated.

Here is the hack for all region's players. It changes regions and unlocks the ability to use Hi-Def modes (720p,1080i etc) through Component connections - some regions ship with this disabled!
Power on player with no disc in tray.
1. Press the Repeat button on your remote control
Don't confuse with the Repeat A-B button
2.If your player was purchased in Region 1:
Press the buttons 2, 9, 3, 3 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
If it was purchased in Region 2:
Press the buttons 5, 7, 5, 3 and 8 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 3 players:
Press the buttons 5, 6, 7, 3 and 2 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 4 players:
Press the buttons 7, 6, 8, 8 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 5 players:
Press the buttons 5, 3, 8, 1 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 6 players:
Press the buttons 2, 4, 4, 6 and 2 on your remote control, in order one at a time
3. The numbers 01 or similar current region code will be displayed on the top left of your onscreen display
4. Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback
NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed quickly
5. Open your DISC tray and leave open for 15 secs.
6. After 15 seconds have elapsed, power off your player and the DISC tray will be closed and player shut off.
7. Power on player and it is now set to the new region code you chose in step 4 above

Nice one. I just had to wait until the DVD selected the media type and then followed your instructions. Mint and no dramas.
Cheers

It's not widely publicised, but many Australian (R4) discs are actually R2,4 and will play on UK equipment anyway.
Your PC DVD software should offer you the option to change region up to 5 times anyway - don't do it unless you have to, though, as this limit is a hard restriction imposed by the drive itself. If you need to play discs from multiple regions then you could try software like VideoLAN (also known as VLC) which doesn't care.

Computer DVD drives can easily be firmware flashed to RPC-1 (multi-region) from the default RPC-2 (region specific). Identify your drive and then visit The Firmware Page :: Index for downloads and advice.
Urban, this hack is for selected Samsung players. Google your players model number and the words 'hack' and/or 'multi region' (eg...'SH853M hack multi region') and you may find what you need, or AV Forums may point you in the right direction (but make sure you've exhausted their search function 'cos they're a grumpy bunch if you don't
