need a new current account

need a new current account
I currently have a current account with Natwest but recently been charge £38 for a unpaid direct debit which i asked them to cancel months ago. I currently pay £12 a month for this account and get a few benfits and the only one i tend to use is the travel insurance.
I had a quick look on the net and alliance leicester seem to have a good rate going at the moment. I also like the look of nationwide as they offer free cash transation when your abroad.
Any views would be good.
thanks

You should avoid paying a monthly charge for a current account especially if you don't use the benefits.
Alliance & Leicester give an excellent interest rate if you stay in credit. If you use the overdraft facility, you may be better looking elsewhere. First Direct were offering £100 if you swap to them, but they don't pay any interest on the current account.
I always use moneysupermarket.com to decide where to put my money (that hasn't been spent on the car!)

I'm in a similar situation. A and L do 6.5% but thats only until Jan 2009, then reverts to 1% below base rate. Halifax do 6.17% only up balances of £2500, then its 0.1% on anything above that. I've gone with Coventry BS - 6.10% on the whole balance for and is not limited to a time period.

I'm considering First Direct, £100 would be nice. If they don't pay any interest then thats even better reason to leave and get another £100
Just why do they expect you to stay if they don't pay any interest?
