Ross Kemp in Afghanistan
Scary stuff. Fair play to him as an actor and TV presenter. My heart goes out to all those brave soldiers out there doing the job they are. Kemp and his camera crew do a good job of bringing home just how dangerous it is out there.

bah. I'd pay for TV, but no ads. Yes, I know those of you who have + can record and fast forward through ads, but you know what I mean.
Not to mention that they are now starting to come up with ad campaigns that work even when you fast forward through them. Firms are investing huge sums of money to come up with a new style of ad that will work in this environment.
They should have just called me. Make them 10x longer and with subtitles...no problem

Yes, that's what I liked about it too. An honest assessment of the situation and what the troops are going through. The sound of those RPGs going over his/camera crew heads really brought the message home. I've watched his "gangs" series but this is on a different level.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's up for another award after this one. I know he plays the hard-*** in the dramas but he's got ***** for this one although a little less ***** than the squaddies who are shooting back and taking out the taleban.

Fair play to kemp and the camera crew he took with him. Excellent documentary!
We all know what our guys are doing out there but this piece of filming really brings it home how dangerous it is and how they take their lives in their hands every single day.
Big pat on the back for the sniper dude who took out the RPG guy

Fair play to Ross for doing the show.
Nice to see an in depth report, rather than occasional bulletins on the news.
The laughter going on when taking fire is something else.
I look forward to the rest of the series, and seeing Ross and the boys win another award for their reporting.
Grant Mitchell, who ever would have thought it.

I know this is correct by the way, just dont see the point of making yourself stand out, other than to the UK troops who will know your not active. And for the Yanks so they know where to bomb
Great to see the ultra brave, untouchable afghans hiding in a mosque!

I thought hiding in the Mosque was a bit shoddy too. I have no idea on this but is it in the Geneva Convention that you don't fire on places of worship?
If not, blow the hell out of it if people who are trying to kill you are in it! You think if you suddenly held a crucifix aloft they'd say "Dirka hang on brothers, makalaka, he's got a dirka cross!"?
Fair play to Kemp though, must have been ****ting himself!

i have been following this series closely since it started this week. compelling viewing and the noise the bullets and rpgs make going over you certainly add to the intensity.
personally with the mosque i would blow the s*** out of it as i dont think they would hold back blowing a church up if our troops were in it.
but thats just me i guess.
even the bit where they were saying that they narrowly missed the mine that the other apc didnt made you think.
bring on the next episode and i hope they get a good reward.

It is illegal to fire on places of worship; but the Geneva Convention also states that if an enemy force uses a place of worship as a firing position, you can engage it legally as it has surrendered its status. Thing is, because of the sensitivities of the press and public engaging such places is usually avoided unless absolutely necessary in order to extract from the contact.

I say the yanks should pretend to believe UK troops were sheltering in there and blow it up. They blow everywhere else up that we take cover!
(tongue in cheek, sorry)
Seriously though, the rules of engagement!!! Shot or be shot.
I understand some need to be there, but come on, some of it is a little daft.
Play them at their own rules. As above, they would not think twice about blowing up churches etc.
Nice to see the big brave men turn into cowards when its a straight forward man to man combat situation.

The lesson is that your allowed to spread their body parts over 300sq metres, but your not allowed to hurt their feelings.

I dont agree with some of the treatment, and thats certainly where the "law of war" comes in. But once again its not like most enemies actually look after prisoners either is it
Guess its one of those things these days. Red tape everywhere, even at war!
