Default Lorries on the M1

WTF

English plate artic lorries..... in the roadworks 50 mph limit ... in the middle lane beeping and flashing the car in front to go quicker... car in question was alongside myself and I was doing 52 ish...... so car was obviously doing 50 !!!

then on the way back a fiesta T-Boned by a english plate lorry....

The driving of the lorries yesterday was terrible .... I do a fair few of motorway miles and the lorries are getting worse !

if it's the Nottingham road works, the camera's are not up yet!!!

you will get some numpty sitting in the outside lane doing 50 (when he could do the same speed in the left hand lane)..

Some people really don't know how to use the roads.

On a seperate note, I am really considering putting one of those electronic signs in the back of my car, with "PULL OVER TO LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING YOU STUPID TW@T"

but isnt it 50 for all 3 lanes not just the two inside ones

And even if the camera isnt up ... the whole point of the 50 is to slow people down to protect the workforce is it not

I drive up and down there every night in a lorry. Doing it daily, I know I can go through at 54 (85kph) and not get a ticket. Lorries are NOT allowed to use the outside lane due to lane width restriction nor any outside lane on a motorway. There is always some numpty sitting in the middle lane doing 45. Cannot undertake, cannot overtake. That doesn't mean I will start flashing and hooting them, (and I condone this before anyone jumps on the all lorries are bad bandwagon) but it can be fustrating, especially when I know there is a hill approaching, so speed up as to not loose momentum and maintain an even speed.

What is even more annoying on this stretch of road is the floodlights just before j7 (northbound) that face directly in to the traffic blinding everyone.

Dave

PS: I just put the car on cruise at the limit with these average speed checks and sit in the inside lane (normally). Then watch all the numpties charge up to cameras, slow down then speed up again ....
hutton... please read my post.. I didnt get undertaken

there are some right numpties on this stretch (i do the run 3 times a week) to luton. i just do 50 where i can.

then launch it at the end of the works (10 - 11)

must admit though, "some" lorry drivers can be right f*****s.
but same for some car drivers as well.

I am astounded by the poor level of driving generally on our roads. I'm surprised there are not more accidents! I witnessed some great stuff on my way to work this morning - all A roads.

I see no-one has picked up on your comment about English plates.

Funny. If you'd said Polish plates we'd have a 10-page thread in no time.

Question

"Polish plates"???? grrrrrrrr, who said Polish plates?

Personally I NEVER polish mine, it helps to avoid gatsos.

Seriously, I've been through the roadworks at the Goole end of the M18 a few times recently, and have been mystified as lorries have overtaken me at 60mph, (I know it was 60mph as I followed one for a short time). There are live specs cameras up.

These are both English and foreign plated wagons.

Exactly dazza... numpties that can do 60 in the 50 seem to have problems getting up to speed when the roadworks finish and the national sign is there... and where are they ... usually in front because they have undertaken everything

Brendan I feel that the driving of the foreign plates speaks for itself.. and as you say the thread would of been 10 pages long by now... it was English driving that astounded me yesterday .... Also the number of cars last night at 10pm on the M1 that had only one headlight and the people who were driving with rear fog lights on ..... It wasnt foggy in the slightest... not even a bit of mist

Anyway, we all know that noone on SN undertakes *deliberately* don't we ....?

Dave

PS: except on the M5 the other night on the way back from Cornwall ....
No worries... I dont bite I dont infract and I dont offend easily as the regulars know by now......

It was interesting doing that amount of miles and seeing the speed in different areas.... In Kent Im doing 90 and everything is overtaking me.... get near London and they all seem to be doing 80 ... then when you get near Sheffield they all seem to be doing well over 100 ... amazing... and in some right sheds that must have elasic bands in them

I think it is annoying when you get people going appreciably below the speed limit through road works, I know there is no law against it but it really is not that difficult to drive at 50 as in this case and avoid holding others up and helping to cause bunching further bacl along the motorway.

By the same token it is also very bad to tailgate especially with a lorry. Very unsettling for the driver in front and also dangerous of course.

I think a lot of the bad driving comes from people who think only for themselves and not for others also using the road.

If there is a speed restriction, road works and what have you, doesn't that mean that the motorway rules are effectively suspended?

If there is a width and speed restriction, particularly when coming up to a junction, then surely it is a case of 'get in lane', then 'stay in lane'?

hmmm interesting one ....

I thought the 50 was for all 3 lanes during roadworks... not the outside lane can still do what it wants

Just 'cos your cars speed is showing 50mph or whatever, doens't mean you are doing that. The true speed will be up to 10% less than that.
So if you're sat there in lane 2 doing an indicated 50-52 then I don't blame the lorry driver as you're probably doing 45-47 in reality.

Lane 1 is for driving in.
Lane 2 and Lane 3 is for OVERTAKING ! ! !

So why when some arctic's travel along the M6 southbound passing the A14 spur to head down to the M1 do they overtake in the outside lane, which in effect is the fast lane.....is this allowed!!!

Came through the specs system on the m27 section at the weekend (50mph)

because i chose to do 40-45mph, i had a m*rrisons lorry tailgating me, flashing his lights and leaning on his horn.

for the sake of 5mph.
