Angry Why is selling a car so hard?

Right.

Old man has had his 2006 RS4 up for sale for the past 2 weeks.

So far he's recieved 6 phone calls wanting to view the car. 5 have been with held numbers, 2 have been dealers (apparently), 1 gave a number that doesn't exist to be called back on, and all callers have said they were from Leeds?

Got a call from an Irish guy this morning (a car dealer living in Leeds) wanting to see the car this afternoon. It was explained to him that due to some dodgy callers he couldn't come to the house (as we didn't want even more people knowing the address) and that we would meet them nearby. If they were genuinly interested in the car then obviously finances would be sorted out back at the house.

Arranged to meet the guy (he'd phone us when he was leaving Leeds) so we could get to the meeting point on time. Nothing wrong with that so far.

Sat waiting for him to arrive (I had my car parked nearby just in case) and waited and waited. 2 hours after he said he'd left Leeds we phone him up. Apparently he'd broken down on the motorway and is awaiting the RAC to get him going. So we went for a cup of tea to kill time. 45Mins go by, so we phone him again to see what is happening. He's on his way. Great. 30mins go by. Phone him again. He's in Sedgefield (where we agreed to meet) by the Fish & chip shop. Great, we're just round the corner. 10 mins waiting, and he still does't show.

******* ******** has been having a laugh. Wasn't here, probably never even set-off. Why the **** do this to someone??????????? What a ******* sad life phoning people up asking to see their car, with the intention of never going.

Spent over 2 hours waiting for some ******* d1ckhead who was never coming.

Rant over

I find it depends on the type of car, Small hatches fly away if priced right, anything sporty attracts bell ends and decent petrolheads in equal measures and anything with more than 5 seats or a Japanese badge guarantees you 500 calls of Asian taxi drivers offering you half the asking price.

No matter what you put in the ad, you still get those car sales firms ringing, even if you put, Car sales firms dont ring or I will hunt you down and kill you with a Biro they still ring.

Yes but they have many buyers on their database looking for cars exactly like the one you are selling, and for a one off fee they will advertise your car until it is SOLD. Sounds like the perfect solution to me.

This has been the same through history .... 40 years ago it was just the same.

I learned valuable lessons all those years ago - all I say is, "I will be in the address until 8pm after that I am going out, if you arrive in time fine - if not I will be out".

You then know by 7:45pm that they are not coming and can forget about it.

In essense always give a time limit - they miss it, tough luck!

I advertised the wifes Micra 13 months ago - got some kids ringing and playing about ..... when they rang the third time I put on a robotic voice, "Your call is being traced by the Police, please hold for the next 60 seconds or ring back again"

They crapped themselves and never rang back

It's just a chance to have a laugh
