Funny thing, but despite what he says, as a Christian, I have no particular dislike or feelings of hate towards anyone who is Muslim, Jew, or Hindu, or any other religion. It is up to them to worship whomsoever they regard as God in their own way as long as they follow natural law and are also tolerant of my own religion.
Life on Earth was not intended to be as in a form of paradise. If everything was a bed of roses for us all, and we wanted for nothing, how happy do you really think the world would really be? Human nature requires life to be a challenge, the problems actually arise from the methods that some use to achieve it. Most religions will attempt to channel those feelings in a righteous manner with due regard to others. Nothing wrong it that-or is there?

Les. But in many cases religion takes away that challenge. I'm not sure what belief system you follow, but your Bible is meant to be the final and complete word from your god? ergo; don't bother trying to improve upon 'perfection'.
The righteous challenge you mention can be got from all walks of life and beliefs. As an athiest, my reason to help those less fortunate (in charitable donations, going out of my way to help neighbors and strangers or even helping out in the Mozambique floods) came from ME, not from my belief in a god.
The wonders of universe and macroverse are such that a burning bush is but a cheap trick. Is not looking outward or inward to find the origins of our existence or to the eradication of cancer or other diseases (which as a creationist you must agree were put there by god) that plague humankind, not challenge enough?
Don't get me wrong, if faith helps you do good, then fine, but the downside of preaching a religious stance is that you also have to concede that your religious texts also calls the death of non-believers, homosexuals and (women only) adulterers. The actual list is very long as it also sanctions such repulsive stuff as slavery and their beating.
There's no doubting that religion does do good. But so does the basis of non-religion.
